ATV thefts have been a huge problem for years in Alberta. The problem is the obviously the theive's; they're known advantage - police response time. Depending where you are, even if you're witnessing the crime take place on your property, it could take them 1,2,3, maybe even 4 or more hours for them to show up. Theive's know it, so do owner's. Some choose to defend their property personally when needed, and as other's have stated, they are now the criminal's. Cops don't like it when you do their job. For over a year now, our city has had a huge problem with theive's targeting catalytic converters. One used car lot had eight of them hacked off in one night! This is after the odd one here and there from his lot. He said that sometimes they do so much damage to other components, that sometimes the vehicle is written off! My little sisters boyfriend went to start his work truck, nope, someone stole the cat!
