My front driver side brake is locked up on my 65 Sport Fury. How do I release the brake?

On the back side of the backing plate at the bottom you should find two rectangular rubber plugs. Remove them and with a brake tool loosen the adjuster ("star wheel") then remove the drum in the normal fashion.
If you can't turn the wheel one way that is the way to run the shoes out. Turn it the opposite way.

That will usually be caused by a corroded wheel cylinder that is stuck in the deployed position. You will want to be replacing all 4 wheel cylinders if that is the case. Also a good time to check and possibly replace the brake hoses. If you find the brake linings to be soaked with fluid, replace those as well.

You may need to use a screw driver to push the self adjuster away and hold it there while loosening the adjuster. A little tricky but doable. Also some have the access holes on the brake drum.
good luck

I'd open the bleeder just for the heck of it. If it releases the brake, it's probably the brake hose.

As stated likely a frozen wheel cylinder which will require backing of the star adjuster to get the drum off. Most people use a screwdriver to move the star adjuster but the Snap-on B-3404 works fantastic, I found mine at a flea market for $5. Believe it's obsolete but should be able to find on fee-bay.
