So the car is at the painter and I have a decision to make with regards to the engine bay.
Paint same color as the car or satin black?
Give me your opinions please.
Also didn't the 66 sport Fury come stock black under the hood? Under side of hood will be body color.
Feel free to post up some pics please!

My preference is the same colour as the car. That’s the way they came from the factory plus it’s just the way I prefer it.

Many moons ago when I painted my beast I did chassis black under the hood and I've regretted it since.

As @rkrochen stated, it came from the factory painted body color in the engine bay. IMO, it will present much nicer with the engine bay body color.

The reason that things changed for the Fuselage cars, is that the inner fenders on the Fuselage cars were bolted-on AFTER the body was painted. On the 65-68 C-body cars, the inner fenders were put on before the fenders went onto the body, BEFORE the body was painted. Different build sequences.

Just some thoughts,

Best reference for originality I have found is a quick search online through sales brochures.
Body color would be my choice. Paint it black and be prepared to have it pointed out by all the Mopar guys at a show.

Body color...done in single stage so not too shiny like the base/clear of the rest of the car

Great observation! Quicker than searching for unmolested, orig paint vehicles. Even if there might have been body color on all of the under hood body parts, there STILL was a semi-flat black that could appear on the front side of the core support, on either side of the radiator/condenser, so that "black" was seen through the grille, rather than body color. If you look at the spray pattern, it was not particularly taped/stenciled, but just quickly sprayed. I have seen some high $$$ restorations where this was not done, though. If you car had that from the factory, replicate it in the repaint.

Enjoy!

Guys to be clear I have been pretty much living on this computer since I began this process. The reason for the post was to get some opinions. I know there's a couple folks on here with an amazing pile of information and I wanted to bounce this off of you all. As an example, Rapidtrans and you gave me great answers, not to say the others didn't, but yours gave me the info I was looking for!
Clearly my front end has been rebuilt since the engine bay is black and the car is white. Additionally, it's a J Code car but the rails do not have the sway bar perches.
I'm assuming this and the 78 440, the changed color from yellow to white and the missing fender tag tell me the front end has been hodge-podged together from a small block car and they went the easy route by painting the bay black. Before painting we will be welding in the perches I removed from the big block VIP parts car and the swaybar rebuild kit is en route now.
We're not trying to do an every part date correct restoration here but some of this stuff I do want to be period correct/stock.

Thanks a TON for your help and opinions and I'm sure there will be additional dumb questions.....

I would guess light colored cars, if not all got a blacked out rad support cause I never recall seeing body color visible behind a grille when these cars were new.

You will probably find that any issue you come across with your vehicle, someone here has experienced it also and will be of great help.

Hopefully you have taken a ton of pics while you disassembled. Even if you did I can almost guarantee you won’t have enough. If you need something let me know and i will see if I have a pic of it.
