I have a 68 Fury III with 383 2 barrel. When I step on the brake at idle, I feel a noticeable shake in motor. When I take foot off brake, idle smooths out. I’ve heard my brake booster needs rebuilding. Question number 1: Does this sound like an accurate diagnosis?
Question number 2: Wondering if anyone here has dealt with this issue. If so, what did you do...rebuild your own booster or buy a rebuilt? Please include where you bought rebuilt and/or rebuild kit. I had a quick look on eBay. Nothing popped out. Thanks, Bob

You probably have a bad booster, especially if you hear a sustained hiss when you apply the brakes. These boosters are usually not a stock item at the parts house, so your best bet will probably be to send it out to be rebuilt. www.boosterdeweyexchange.com does a good job of rebuilding boosters.

I don’t hear a hiss...just feel the rough idle. Still need rebuilding?...or could it be something else.

Disconnect the vacuum line to the booster and plug it. See if it idles better.

My 300G is doing the same thing, the booster is leaking creating a vacuum issue, upsetting engine.....Contact Booster Dewey. He did my '64 Imp as well...no better folks, and very pleasurable in terms of their business ethic. You can have yours rebuilt or he can send you one if he has it and you return your core. Nice people!

Pulled brake booster hose and plugged it. Yes, It idles better just as if my foot was not on brake pedal. When I sit with car idling in Drive/foot on pedal it idles the same as if idling in Park. So it does appear to be brake booster causing problem...or...there’s a plastic valve in brake booster canister which the vacuum hose connects to. Looks like it’s pressed into a rubber grommet. Wondering if that could be the issue. I’d like to get that out and check it out. Looks like I’ll break it though if I pull too hard on it. Must be a one way valve like a PCV valve? It looks in fine condition but who knows...Anyone ever run into that valve being the cause of this?

Your booster has an internal leak. Get it rebuilt because the condition of the valve is irrelevant to an internal leak.

If you want to fiddle fart around with it and try to fix it, go ahead and waste your time. God knows you got that being stuck at home! Your still going to have to get it replaced or rebuilt in the end.

I have dealed with John Stewart a few time for my Mopars,A+ all the times

Hey furyfever, did you ever get it figured out? My 68 fury III 318 does the same thing. Had the whole booster apart and everything looked alright.

Make sure your master cylinder isn't leaking fluid out the back or you will ruin your new booster as well.
