SRT 8 Opinions?

So, in your opinion Graham, are SRT vehicles potential future collectables or just another old car of that vintage???
I think SRT vehicles have potential but... The problem is the general public is not aware that there is a difference. To them its just a used car.

My dad has a 06 300C Heritage Edition. He was asking a dealer what it was worth. They told him that people don't buy cars any more. If you try to look it up in a used car guide its not even listed. These have production numbers less than half of the 300 SRT8 models, Around 4000 cars, and have SRT components installed on them. The dealer didn't know anything about them.... It will take a little time for these specialty cars but I think will gain in value.
 
Just my observations.....

I have been paying attention to the SRT's for several years now. I'm seeing the SRT sections at Carlisle growing faster and bigger than any class of vehicles. And it's not just old dudes like me buying SRT's. I spent more than half my time in the SRT area at Carlisle and I would say that half of the people with the SRT's were 30 years old or younger. I also go to alot of dragstrips in the mid-Atlantic area and there alot of SRT's running in all classes and on test and tunes nights. Even a decent number of women racing SRT's too. I'm amazed at the knowledge and enthusiasm that all of these SRT people have.

The low mileage 08 SRT I believe is priced high at $25k but I believe that someone can get it for about $17k. There are a lot good deals out there on the early SRT's and great deals on the new SRT's. The one good thing is that the derby won't be wrecking any SRT's!

Well John at some point in the future all high horsepower gas guzzling and fun to drive cars such as these will become rare enough to be valued not for their collectability but their rarity. Eventually they will disappear as more socially acceptable vehicles take their place. As soon as someone figures out how to produce on board electrical power ICE powered cars will disappear like the dinosaurs and only “car guys” of the future will become the archeologists that preserve them.
 
I was looking at a '14 SRT8 Jeep, too much, but it had my interest for a moment. My wife does not need 485 HP to drive to work.
In my case I would get one with no regard to miles, more the better, engine will have more clearances for spray or supercharging it without any worry of ring seize or bearing spin due to increased temp or pressure.

Thanks for your thoughts Graham, it's what I expect too, similar things down under with the Aussie Chrysler Ford and Holden equivalents, will be interesting to see where Holden prices go after closure, an Auckland dealer is advertising vehicles 14,000 and 24,000 off to be rid of them (not the HSV hot ones, but still).
 
Yes, I know, I'm on local log/time sheet, yes I know that may not last. I'm looking for something to walk in and spout off my last 6 of my VIN and the counter person looks up my part. Not here is what I have got do you have something to match? At the Peterbilt dealer, give the last six of my VIN and the counter guys shakes his head because he has to guess at what page to look at, microfiche converted to computer. 8 out of 10 times the parts are N/A or the substitute is almost more work to retrofit than gutting it and replacing with new generic system.
Let's face it there is no good solution. They have ruined the trucking industry with regulations after deregulation of rates, all in a effort to control what they had control of prior to the deregulation.
Worst comes to worst I have a 1994 Pete cab and title I can go backwards.
As long as I'm not deleting filters the rest is easy to overcome.
Before the market falls. What's your offer on my old Pete, you won't insult me.

While I'm not in a position to take on another refurbishment the Billy Big Riggers would be in a bidding war over a long hood 359.

I'd like to know if the cowl on a 9300 International is the same as a 70's 4300. I'd really like a 9300 hi rise 72" Prosleeper with that big square hood on it. The rest of the cab didn't change much at all from the early 70's to late 90's when the 9900i came out.

This 900L I have with the 60" flat top sux compared to the 9400i that I had before. It is nice to look at tho...

Yep, that is a good thing. I've never been to any derby but, I would imagine a demo derby featuring LX cars would be rather disappointing. Shattered plastic everywhere, bumper covers dragging on the dirt. I would think any decent side hit to any of the wheels would leave it immobilized, the suspension components are so delicate.

I don't know what the dimensions are to compare. I just thought if the cowl area was the same it would be a good way to get the vintage look without the vintage downsides like no air ride cab, freeze in the winter fry in the summer, etc.

I'd sell this one but I'd have to have what I'd consider stupid money for it although a friend of mine listed his Dad's 97 900L for $75,000 and it was gone in less than a week for $72,500.

A butt for every seat I guess...

I once did a google search on stub frames and stumbled across a derby forum on “how to” derby up C body stub frames. They called it a y frame and were welding steel across the front. It was an interesting read.

The Y is the letter designation for Imperial.

My 78 NYB has Y stamped in 2 places in the sheet metal because it is the same as the 74-75 Imperial die stamps. The 78 Newport has C stamped in those places.

What I do know is from listening to derby guys. Im a Formal guy and there is literally no one making anything except 1157 bulbs and air cleaner wing nuts for Formal's. So the only place you can get Formal parts is junkyards and derby guys. I know a few derby guys that only derby the Formal's that are pretty much unrestorable. Some of those Formal's have decent interiors and other parts but have so much rust that they can't pass a State inspection or just isn't worth restoring. My 78 NYB was a basket case and most people would of passed on it. It has taken over a decade for me to get it in the condition it is now. I've had help from many, many people from Canada to Mexico and from east to west to find all the parts and stuff I needed. And I'm forever grateful and honored to those friends for their help and generosity!!! Also 1978 has a ton of 1978 only parts on it. I could of taken the easy road and probably bought at least 4 or 5 low mileage rust free from out west for the amount of money I have invested in my 78 NYB. I'm glad I did it! It was one hell of a build and I have made lifelong friends with many, many people.....a lot of them are members on this forum.

It’s a beauty and that is admirable dedication, especially if you have 78 specific parts to deal with.

I don’t have anything against the derby people. They seem to revere C bodies just in a different way than we do. They must be tough if those guys are specifically looking for them.
