Looking for the bright blue light (air fuel mixture)

Agree all are a little different.
I need to do more driving then testing. We got about 6-8” of snow Thursday, just when it was all gone. Maybe good by Wednesday?
I need to set it and drive.
You can tell right away if you got it right or not. Easy starting hot or cold is your first sign that things are as they should be. Then good acceleration off idle cruise with limited or no hesitation is next. Nice even feel on city street cruise and idle at stoplight. Then a nice smooth roar at highway speeds with a perfect kickdown from about 55-85 mph.

I did it correctly this winter.
I forgot that one degree distributor advance is two degrees on the crank. I knew I was missing something. I will go back and edit. My readings. I need just go for a drive.
 
Back in the 1973-74 time frame, my friend's Dad who had an Exxon Service Station was one of my mentors of sorts on tuning. One day, I discovered that Exxon (and probably others) put Tune-Up Manuals out to their station operators who also did light repair work. Kind of like a Motor Manual meets FSM, in some cases.

In the "Tune-Up Specs" section, it had the different carlines listed by model year and engine. One of the specs was something I hadn't seem before. "Advance at 2500rpm", of something like that. Which would be base initial + distributor mechanical advance + vacuum advance. In almost all cases on a typical V-8 motor, the total advance numbers were in the 50s. That looked strange, but the base + mechanical + vacuum would usually be in the 50-55 degrees BTDC range anyway, IF the OEMs had put that number in their FSM.

Best to look at things in "crankshaft degrees", which makes things easier to deal with. Using the dial-back timing light is great to do, as it gives readings quickly and easily. It basically obsoletes a few separate machines/gauges that we used to use.

I did get it out for a quick drive on Wednesday. Every thing seems about right. I will give it a few more miles when I can. I need to secure my tubs of maintenance items and cleaning supplies, I can’t tell if I have a hesitation or not. If I tromp on it I hear the tubs slide and let off.
