Need help quick... Voltage regulator wiring

In the midst of wiring my new electronic voltage regulator.... the old and new does not match. The connectors seem to be complete opposite on the new from the old . The old had a light blue one passenger side and a dark blue or black on the drivers side. The new is labeled "IGN" and "FIELD". Which goes where on the new VR?

Grab your test light and turn on the ignition, this will energize the ignition lead, the lead with power goes to the terminal marked ignition, the other lead goes to the alternator field.

Why was the wire cut? That wire goes to the FLD (screw) terminal and the other wire goes to the IGN (spade) terminial.
