Power Steering Squeel

How do I stop the power steering squeal on my 65 NYer!
1) check and adjust the belt tension per the Factory Service Manual (FSM).
2) If desired, you could apply some bee’s wax to the pulley side of the belt. This is something that I do, but rarely.

The '65 has the hinged bracket that can be troublesome if adjusted wrong. There should be a rubber stop that the bracket bottoms out (shown in the video) that's often missing. Chances are that the belt is glazed if it's been doing it for a while and you'll need to replace the belt and then do the correct adjustment.

Perhaps you should tell us what you have already done to get rid of the squeal. In your opinion is it a belt squeal or is it coming out of the pump? Is your fluid topped up and in good condition? Have you changed the belt with the correct one? How is it performing, is it smooth or jerky?

I'll ask some follow up Q's as you don't say, and nobody else has asked.
Does it squeal when the wheel is in the centered position, or when the wheel is turned to the lock?
That'll help narrow down getting you a definitive answer for you and not shooting arrows in the dark! Good Luck

When I am turning. I can cruse down the road, no problem. When I am pulling out of my drive way onto the street.

I have topped off the fluid.
Just when your turning, or when it's turned fully and hits the stop, or just in a slight turn?
How low was the fluid and how much driving was done while it was low?
How nasty looking, and smelly is the fluid in the reservoir?
Your either looking at a loose belt, or a bearing issue depending on your answer to the above. Good Luck

Only near close to the sto

Only near the stop. No problem when cruising. Just when making that tight turn. Not sure of the condition of the fluid. I will do a fluid check when it stops raining.

You have a Turkey baster?? Otherwise stick your finger in there and get a finger full, does it look burnt, dark in color, have a burnt smell to it? You never said anything about the belt, is it old, how loose is it, etc.? I have to dig out my FSM and look at the troubleshooting guide unless you have one and check deeper.????
