Hi there.
I’ve always been under the impression that there were no rear disc brake conversion for my car. I’ve recently discovered a LEED brake conversion kit that will fit my Newport. Just wondering if any one has used this conversion and there thoughts on it.

If you are running a 600hp monster, the disc conversion on the rear makes sense. Otherwise, properly maintained drums on the rear should be adequate for a cruiser.

This is just a thought over and above the front disc brakes install that I will be doing. I just need to know if anyone has installed this kit on any of there cars and there thoughts on it. Thank you for any input you have.

Didn't that fella that re-engineered a new hemi into a 67/68 Chrysler do discs front and back? What was his name? Overall a fantastic job that looked like it was born there and I think the car was turbine bronze or similar??

I have seen the rear conversions. I would point out that one major difference I noticed is the formed bracket for the axle tube. Some are formed and some are formed AND welded. I have read somewhere about the only formed ones not being as rigid and causing minor issues...but all have worked.

I ordered the ssbc kit for the front then a few months later tried to order the rear but couldn't get them so I went with Leeds. Installed both last year..There was a hole on the leeds I had to ream a little but I can't remember which hole lol..but both went on fairly easy

Is there welding involved in the rear disc install?

If the current drum brakes are capable of locking up the rear tires which they are unless you are running sticky road race tires, discs are a waste of time. Front brakes do 70% of the braking. Dragging your feet will almost cover the difference. Police spec rear brakes or a more aggressive shoe compound on the civilian ones will more than exceed the traction capabilities of most if not all street tires.

This is all assuming you aren't doing hot laps at Road America or 130 mph trap speeds at the strip in hot lap mode.

I have a 68 300. Converted the front to disc using spindle and assembly from a 71 newport. New vacuum boost and master cylinder for the newport as well. Honestly, once you get the front done, you may decide the rear isn't necessary but once you do select a rear conversion please post a follow up, Id be curious to know what you selected and how well you like it.
