Hey guys I need your opinion.
I’m taking these modern drum eating shoes off my 300.
I’m buying some NOS rear shoes from Craig in N.Y. and he’s giving me a choice.
Riveted or bonded rear asbestos shoes... What do you think?

The factory shoes on most Mopars were bonded and they held up pretty well for anything but the most severe applications. For severe use, Mopar equipped police cruisers and some others with riveted shoes. Unless you do road racing, bonded factory shoes should be adequate. Replacement shoes from China had a reputation for failing due to poor gluing techniques.

X2. This is why I say rivetted as your first choice. My cars have all had rivetted factory shoes - (perhaps that's a Canada thing...), and in my brand X cars the bonding has failed more than once on their shoes.

IMHO, I've never had a problem with bonded shoes coming apart. That doesn't mean it never happens, just means I never had a problem. I have had cars where the riveted shoes got too worn and destroyed the drums... Of course, that was on my typical high mileage beaters that didn't get a lot of care and not on a car that's not going to those kind of hard miles. I never used riveted shoes as replacements because of that.

Of course, on a car that isn't driven everyday, those rear brake shoes are going to last forever... I used to figure 75K miles before you had to replace rear brakes... The last daily driver I had with rear drums went well over 100K.

Bottom line is it really doesn't matter, but I'd go with the bonded....

Lots of good advice to think about.
Likely the last brakes the car is ever going to get.
I like the idea of heavy duty just because, I like it.
The brake material must be the same between bonded and riveted or I think someone would have said so.
Bonded is the original type on the car and I like that as well.
It’s about an even split.

Moby / Craig and I were watching this thread -- and kind of hoped more of you would respond !!!!
I have about 15 sets ONLY right now, of the 11" x 2 1/2" Rear ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++...
I have about 12 - 13 sets of Bonded and had exactly 2 sets of Riveted....
Moby / Craig opted for the Riveted which also have the cooling grooves !!!! So they are SWEET.... And he will never drive the car enough to get into the rivets.
And, I have Riveted set aside for all my old Caddy's and my Plum Crazy Road Runner.... Someone told me years ago, and I still agree -- If someone is unsure of something and there is a choice, give them what you would use on your own car... I have always liked that -- and thought it to be correct...
So Moby / Craig has one of my two sets of Riveted on the way, as we discussed...

Thanxxx for all of your input. We WERE interested in your thoughts....
Yours, Craig and Moby / Craig .........

How much for the 11" x 2.5"? I think I want a good price....

Rivets are fine if you haven't any Mopar OEMs.

Gerald,
