For Sale 70 300 not mine

i saw this car today.
when i saw it 8yrs ago i thought the vinyl top was green, but it turns out it was a very stained white top.
my friend who hauled the car 2 mos ago to where it is now said the vinyl top was "puffy" in places then.
i have way more questions in my head than answers about this car after talking with the seller and then talking with other people who know what the story is.
he has spent a huge amount of time and effort cleaning the car.
he removed the white vinyl top and primered the roof.
front and back glass was removed and metal "repaired".
if it was mine 1st thing i would would want to do is pull the glass out, strip the roof to bare metal and redo the work to make sure it was done properly.
the body & trim is very straight, the floors are good and trunk seems solid - some pin holes but nowhere as bad as i was expecting, i was pleasantly surprised. there is no gas tank so it was easy to see.
some small bubbling in lower rear 1/4 and some rust in left front fender behind the wheel above the trim molding.
only options i can see are the front discs, am radio, rear defogger, rear speaker, tinted glass and air cond - which is auto temp.....
the seller says he hasnt tried to start the car and deliberately doesnt have a battery in the car so people wont try to start it.
i asked if the headlight doors work properly, i was told "they open".
the car is jacked up because the left rear tire goes flat.....
the left rear brake is stuck....
i find it very strange that so much time would have been spent cleaning and removing the top but no time would have been spent trying to start it or at least changing the tire and freeing up the brake.
he said if it was running he would want $6500 for it.
i said i didnt agree with that.
he asked if i would pay his $3500 asking price if i was interested, i said no.
i think even in cdn$ costs will add up very quickly with this car.
too much for a fairly basic 300 with autotemp....
the seller is known to have a long history of working at some of the sketchier used car dealers in town.
i didnt get a direct answer from him that its his, but later i found out that he is selling it for the guy who owns it - who is the guy who owned it when i saw it 8 yrs ago.
my gut is telling me they couldnt get it running because of electrical probs probably related to years of having a damp interior. i could be wrong though.
it wouldnt be a bad thing for a local buyer but anyone off island is going have added costs

It's probably on the dial with the conversion for my area.
If the guy works for small lots he may do body repairs to move cars.
My guess is they have not started it or freed the wheel because they are not mechanics.
If it turns over smoothly the first thing I would do would be fire it up. Well 2nd after getting the wheel broke loose.
I think it's a good candidate for a do it yourself guy to dive into.

no, gotta disagree with ya about him not knowing mechanics.
as i said hes selling it for the owner, and when i got there he was working on a truck. he said he didnt do the body repair, he got someone else to do it.
my buddy who knows him says he knows more than enough to get it running.
i dont know mechanics but im pretty sure my buddy and i could at least get it to turn over if the electrics werent an issue.
i had a 64 imp coupe that we couldnt get to come to life, a friend whos an electrician spent a day and finally got it running after redoing alot of wiring that looked good

So how did the car smell this time?

I think it's a good candidate for a do it yourself guy to dive into.

I agree, looks like it could be a deep pool though!

Only takes a few minutes to fire one. When diagnosing the condition of the engine. I dont get derailed with the electrical system as a whole.
Check points, drop in a battery run a hot wire to coil, splash gas in carb, short across starter relay with a screw driver. 10 minutes.

If it fires immediately, then see about feeding it fuel somehow. I like using a known good carb when I have one. So I'm tuning on the motor and not the carb. When motor runs good then dial in original carb. Usually a thorough cleaning and kit.

it didnt stink this time, it was a hot day yesterday and all the windows were down.
its had lots of thorough cleaning and the carpet is removed.
dash pad is good. vinyl seats not dried out. white stains on the dark green headliner.
when you look closely at dash and around gauges n controls you can see areas that there still is mold & mung residue..... but he's done a great cleaning job.
lots of potential but its not going to be the " easy low cost project for a car guy" he is making it out to be

i found out that the deal with this car is the owner wants $2,000 cdn and the guy selling it gets to keep the difference in what the car sells for.

Probably a fair deal then if the guy has done that much work. It's a risk free flip job. Dude could throw on a tire that holds air.
I would be tempted to to offer 500 less and I get to make a motor assessment. Meaning I bring a battery and gas and start it.
Otherwise all the money and he makes run first.

Hope we get to see more from CM23T0C112324 after restoration by her new owner!

i found out from the tow guy who hauled the car to the seller's place and from there for shipping,
that the car sold for $2700 CDN.

Marko thanks so much for all the legwork you did for us on this and keeping us informed. Very much appreciated.
