New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

No, you need to release the tension completely and remove the rear retainer clip in the socket that holds the bar forward and in place before you remove the lower control arm. The torsion bar should then slide toward the rear. The FSM describes the process in detail.

I’m assuming you will be changing the bushings as well. I did.

Good luck!
Gotcha.. might as well change everything while I’m under her.. local parts joint should have all I need? Or special place?

Ops, one more question. Will need a Press for the Up/Lower control arm bushings?

As Javier said, definitely. I'm sure you have some machine shops handy in the NYC area that work pretty reasonable. My suggestion would be to get all the parts, bushings and BJ's, and have them put them in all at once. You can do it yourself, but you'll hate yourself cometh the dawn!

Going in for new heads.... finally.... at the end of the month on the NYB.

Just finishing refresh on one of my favorites.

yes I know....stepped away for a day and Ivan mounted the red side markers on the front and yellow ones on the back.... also, antenna base is 180 out and a few piece of trim are wrong ...but hey, it’s great to see the wagon and runner together again.

went in for a few little rust spots and ended up taking all the trim off and interior apart.

Added some delux front bumper guards this go round. I know it’s not “correct” but really lightens up the front visually.

Drove her for the first time today with the new and silent rear end. Wow, I’m in love again. All it took was a one full throated stomp on the gas.

Hopefully, pandemic and tropical storm willing, I should have her finished up and home soon. I’ve stoped driving the NYB as my sometimes daily.... just too frustrating. The wagon just purrs. But very soon the NYB will as well.

Nicest color on one of those. IMO

Beautiful car Javier.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Pardon the interruption, Javier, but to me if you really wanted to clean up the front end, and obviously don't mind absolute correctness, please take those tits off completely like ma Mopar intended. Not the gubment.

The drivers side head is leaking coolant. More like weeping but still. No bueno.

Runs like it’s got a leaky lifter or couple of bent pushrods or bad head gasket. Also ... Need to change rear freeze plugs.

If you remember from my earlier posts, the lower block freeze plugs were rotted. I only changed out the ones I could get easily. I knew I would eventually be at this point.

While I’m at it, planning on pulling out the block to change the rear freeze plugs, change out the leaking rear main seal, check the main bearings, rings and cylinders and oil pump. If ok, clean, reassemble, paint and reinstall.

If not, rebuild, reassemble, paint and reinstall... all stock(ish) or close to it. No Keith black pistons but perhaps bump
Up the compression and cam lift a bit for some more power.

Regardless, new mounts and change out all the hoses I hadn’t gotten yet.

When that’s done... Probably paint it toward the end of the year. It’s original paint but it’s so thin, the black primer is beginning to show through it in some angles and it has several not so nice areas of spot painting done to it already.

AND... wrestle that pesky front bumper. Going to cut, tweak and weld it behind each of the two front guards where you can’t see it so it is even with the front fascia. Only way to do it. I’ve been studying it for two years. There is no adjustment possible to get it to fit properly.

One thing for sure, I won’t be ashamed to take out clients in it or have you guys look at it. Picky bastards!

I tried to straighten mine after I had it painted... it was a no go. The more you tried, the damn nose or the grill hit the bumper! I gave up before I really effed something up!

Hopefully, by cutting the backbone you may be able to straighten out what Ma Mopar screwed up. Keep us posted!

From what I can see, making the entire front bumper from ONE cold stamping is what causes this. They were all the same from 74 to 78. Drooping ends. But you’re right on as to having to probably cut the support frame beneath to get this to work. We’re talking about a tweak of 9/16” up at the ends to get it to look straight and align with the bottom trim of the front fascia. It’s a bit more than a tweak but the amount of displacement at the cut is only 1-3/32” to get that kind of vertical movement at the ends. Cut will be clean up from the bottom vertically to just below the top of the front guard. It’s going to be a real project.

I’m planning on stripping and pulling the fascia to paint it so paint time would be the time to tackle this.

As I said... that’s the plan. And, I’ve spent some time measuring and studying the issue so I’m pretty confident it will work. But you never know until you get there how it will actually go.

It’s an amazing NYB as I see it, can’t wait to see the finished product. You have certainly set a bar for me being an NYB owner. If I could be so bold as to invite myself I might even take a trip down to FL just to have a ride in it when done.. LOL

You’re more than welcome. Early next year.
