Here’s one...on BAT

Love this car! Beautiful color. Be interesting to see what it goes for.

Starter ring gear replaced at 9k+ miles?
Don't believe this is a 15k mileage car, more like well cared for 115k car.

Do we need to post up the picks of a real 15k car for comparison?

Also still has the lean burn in addition to ATC II. Nice car, but I also doubt it is a 15k car.

The 4 mounted tires appear to be the original Firestone 721 radials. The sticker is still on the A/C compressor & brake booster. The original clamp is on the original resonator. The front seat belt plastic clips are still in place. Original hoses & ignition wires; just 1 new clamp. Original wiper blades. It looks like 15k original miles.

Firewall, fender wells are real dirty for a 15k car.

I think its mileage is 15k. I Don’t see wear on the usual places to be 115k. Driver door panel looks pristine. The top of thre grill shows no cracks or blisters.

So, unless it was driven by an incredibly anal adult who weighed less than 100 pounds since new... I see a 15000 mile car.

it also has that factory fresh drooping bumper ends ....

.... bane of our existence

With initial bidding over $7000.... this one will break $10,000 easy.

Badly installed starter could have quickly ruined the ring gear.

Or a disreputable dealer charged him a new ring gear for a loose starter... it was way out of warrantee by then..... poor guy.

Dave,

What do you see that makes you think it’s more than the 15k miles stated?

I clean mine every time I’m in there and mine are dirtier..... Lots of **** flying around under the hood when running. Belt rubber, road grime, coolant vapor, oil smoke off the exhaust manifolds (valve covers all leak a little), plain old dirt through the fan.

I see rust proofing overspray... my car came with the same stuff all over the inner fenders. Mine was blackened by the heat. This looks fairly fresh and tranluscent.

Cars that sit leak out there freon. Pretty sure that’s what may be going on here. Would love to look at it closely. Could also be as simple as no (or not enough) vacuum to the system.

I wonder why the seller didn’t just address this issue. That’s just not right and works against getting the best price. It’s a dumb unforced error. How much better it would have been to counter the ATC II issue/concerns than to have it working.

From a distance it is hard to tell, but I would have expected a seller to have cleaned up the firewall as part of a detailing process for sale to show off the still shiny paint under the hood. At 15k I would not expect to see much rust or dirt under the hood after cleaning. Seller is either lazy or knows the area can not be cleaned up to look like anything. I am usually suspicious of claimed low mileage, especially by dealers. It is entirely possible this could be a low mileage car, but I would want to see better proof than a dealer's say so. Bidding is stuck at $7600 for 2 days now and I would have expected it to have gone higher if that mileage is correct.. A detailed history of the car's ownership history would also be helpful if the dealer expects to get big bucks for it. Even if it is a 115k car, it is still a really nice example of an American luxury car. In that case, the car's value is someplace close to the current bid. If the mileage is legitimate, it might fetch $10k-$12k, maybe more to the right buyer. Pricing has all gone weird in the covid-19 market. The non-functional ATC and the still installed lean burn might also be putting a damper on the price and the late 70's cars do not bring the higher prices that the early '70's cars bring. In short I do not know enough about this car to say it is either 15k or 115k, so I would error on the side of caution.

A 15k car should look like it just come out of a museum, click on the other +46 pictures and look at the front end undercarriage. Plus why did someone spray what looks like new undercoating, I've seen that colored stuff, VatoZone rattle can stuff all over the gas tank area. There is a reason why you don't undercoat a gas tank.

Front end looks like it needs a alignment. (inner tire wear)

There is also a lot more grease on the UCA and LCA around the ball joint, at 15K you would expect none. Also note grease fitting on lower ball joint, The cars had plugs installed from the factory which were removed at the first service, well past 15k, 36k was the recommended interval, further evidence that this is not a 15k car.

Ahhh over the years people would service a car if it came out of storage and a gas station lube jockey may get a little excited with the grease gun on such a classic. If you store a car for years then bring it out of storage you should change the oil right away, old oil will absorb moisture, says right in the owners manual, what was the rule back then 3k miles or 3 months. I know I did the cabs at 3,000 miles or 30 days. I found just the opposite with the cabs I worked on, at first I wasn't doing the lube & oil changes but when I was under the car right after it was at the gas station next to the stand for a oil change & lube I could see the lube jockey just put the grease gun nipple on the fitting to leave fresh grease on it to appear that it had been greased. I shot it with my gun out of curiosity and whola! look how much grease it takes and another car you could see the water being pushed out. I didn't get the oil & lube job until the same station serviced our competitors cabs and forgot to tighten the oil drain plug which fell out on the expressway doing a airport run. ha ha heh! (an he drove it till it seized).

I could of sworn I had pictures saved of a small Fury of the 75 to 78 vintage with around 15k miles that had plenty of engine bay pics and under carriage pics... All I could find were pictures (few) of a 1977 Plymouth Fury with 4k miles on it. A white one with tan roof, the 15k Fury was a baby blue one IIRC and you could see how clean the oil pan and side of the block was, plus lower control arm just had very minor surface/storage rust, you could see in the pictures that it was MINT!

Very Nice Formal! If it was coupe....I'd be bidding! A couple of issues I have are: First: look at the drivers seat in a couple pix's, there's some stains from cleaning material or from something else. The second is the engine compartment some of the grease/dirt or exhaust has a pretty good build up for a 15K car! It does have an un-cracked steering wheel and look at the ash tray the trim is like new. This is a tough one to put a price on, IMO! If this was coupe....it'd be worth $8-$9 grand....this one $5-$6 grand tops!

IMO....Rediculous! Once again what are the spots on the front seats? Grime on the fire wall with that few miles?

Just broke $10k.

I’m thinking that’s overspray from the rustproofing.

Undercarriage at the wheels looks a bit too grimy for the stated mileage. Regardless.... berry nice overall condition.
