67 Polara 500 convertible

Time to get under the hood.
With the discovery of the cause of the "miss" in the engine, (see cyl heads in the engine thread), I have decided to fully detail the engine and compartment on sleeper. The survivor question is pretty much a moot point since the heads came off for reconditioning. And this will be more fun. The air filter housing, fan and pulleys, all front dress brackets and smaller heat shields etc, have been dropped off this afternoon to be sandblasted and powder coated.
The heads will go into the shop Monday.
I will keep this thread updated as progress is accomplished .

I'm really jealous of your front seats....:poke:

Thanks, But you should be envious, not jealous. :poke:
Now that I'm not so hung on the survivor aspect of this car. I may go ahead and have Berry do the rear seat and arm rest also. Might be TO nice with a new top. I'm pretty proud of the original paint though. I think that will stay the same.
I'm ordering all the good stuff I need to reassemble and detail the engine. Once I get past cleaning everything up, then the fun begins.

Well...no, I think I'm a bit jealous. Extremely envious. Our front seats are disintegrating...it's almost like the peanuts character Pig Pen. You sit down and cloud of foam dust follows you around. The springs squeak like an old bed.
I gave up on the survivor thing. I like driving the car, not showing it. And it wants to be driven, not parked and gawked over.
Glad the car is working out for you. Hope you enjoy it for a long time.

I dropped the cylinder heads at the shop today. Will receive all new valves.
Cleaned parts all day yesterday and will be doing that for awhile. So, nothing exciting to report.

Hey Wil. What are you having done to your heads? The usual seat inserts, larger exhaust valves, etc?

Recondition to OEM spec Rip. New steel valves, seats ground, seals, knurl the guides. He'll call if any surprises. I don't expect there will be anything bad there.
Cost $502.00

I'm going through the thankless process of cleaning parts now. I stripped two sets of valve covers, the original 67 and a pair of 66 that I have. If anyone needs a nice set of 65/66 BB valve covers. holler, Stripped and primered.
Parts are rolling in at a steady pace. Head shims, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, rad hoses and thermostat, points cap and rotor for the dual point, etc.
No word from the powder coater yet.

You think this kinda snowballed?

a intentional snowball. Once I discovered the problem and knew the fix I made the decision to go all the way. I just don't have it in me to do it any other way. My theory is that things get fixed during the process of restoration weather they need it or not. :)

This car started out as a preservation project, but I think I've crossed the line now. Still, the car doesn't need to be "restored".

I picked up the heads yesterday. Like new. Surfaced, guides checked out good, all new valves, seals and core plugs.
I'm no where near ready to install them. Still working on clean up and detail. The timing gear turned out to be the original fiber/plastic gear so a new steel double roller is on order.
