Hi everybody,

my 1965 300 has tail lights with one tail light bulb and one reverse light bulb in each.
I’m looking for a left side tail light with the single tail bulb set up but am finding tail lights with two bulb tail lights and one in the reverse position.
Is this a trim level difference or maybe a production date difference or......?
Does anyone have a left single bulb tail light in driver condition?
The car is wired for the single style so I’m trying to replace a left one that’s been replaced with a double bulb style.

The reverse/backup light is a single filament bulb #1156. The tail light uses one half of the dual filament bulb #1157 or#1034 and the stop/turn signal uses the other half. Both bulbs should be available at NAPA or pretty much any quality auto parts.

Thanks for the replies.
I must not have explained this very well.
The tail light assemblies on my 65’ 300 have two sockets, one for a tail light bulb and one for a reverse light bulb.
The tail light assemblies I am finding have two tail light bulbs and one reverse light bulb. Total of three.
Is this a trim level difference or production date difference maybe a regional difference?
Anyway I’m looking for a left tail light assembly that takes one taillight bulb and one reverse bulb.

Not a trim level thing. My 300 had the single lamp bucket.

If it was me, I would get a 2 lamp and rewire that side to suit, but that's just me. Better visibility with 2 filaments than 1.

That’s a possibility if I can’t come up with a single bulb.
The reflector in the single bulb tail light on the right works pretty well to make it bright but with one bulb in the left with its two bulb reflector it’s half dark.
A little rewire and cut a hole in the trunk for the second bulb to stick through. The other thing I see is that the single bulb style has three mounting points and the double bulb style has four. Not impossible but I’ll try for a single before I go that far.

So........
I don't understand.
Which year/make/models got the two tail light/ one b.u. lamp and which ones got the single/single???

IIRC, New Yorker got the 3 bulb taillight housings.
Newport and 300 got the 2 bulb housings.
I agree with Pete if you can score the 3 bulb ones wire them up.
Cheers

I was fairly certain that @rexus31 has the double socket tail lights in his 300, but after looking at his resto thread again I noticed only one hole on the tail panel for a socket. @cbarge , I guess you are correct.

New Yorkers got them. To clarify though, the backup is a separate unit from the tail light, because that was an option on some models.
Ignore the mod, but this is the single bulb version...

and this is the double with the NY red covers...

Since you are new here, take a few minutes and look through this thread about the resurrection of a 300...

I have a nos ‘65 single bulb taillight that I showed to the op. It has been for sale here before. I also showed the op this single bulb housing that will be sent for postage only, if the op is interested, we did have a conversation.
A few years ago I had another nos ‘65 300 taillight that had the double light bulbs and also the reverse bulb. So both for the 300 model. Was it a mid year change? Or different plants? I don’t know.
Also this single bulb housing came off this taillight assemble that has a Newport. Or is it New Yorker?
Here also is a box full of small chrome trim, plastic and misc small parts for the ‘65s
I like the led light set up you have there, @300rag.

I should do more research, but I can loosely recall the clear tail lights that were installed on early build cars were eventually "banned" and production was stopped and Chrysler went to red lenses..

That is correct. Only early production cars got them. My understanding is production after Jan 1, 1965 was red lense.
