Carlisle 2020 Official Thread

Call it what ever catchy phrase you like Dave. This thing is real and it's a killer.
I can sit out a year.

Right, and the way you are handling it Will is the correct way. It concerns you, it could be a problem to you. You put yourself in the best safest position.
NOT shut down a nation, destroy the economy, businesses, families, lives because of it.

I hear what your saying Dave. I understand the frustration. It's not as hard on a guy like me, retired, fixed income. My heart goes out to the folks who have lost their income in a flash.
This is a very serious, life threating situation. Where do you place your priorities, where do you cross the line? I don't have the answer. Life is risky and each has to weight what is best for them.

I thought about coming this year before all this went down but I’m no longer thinking that, I’m out. It’s rare that I get to that one and when I do go I want it to be great. This year I’m not so sure it’s going to be very well attended but I hope I’m wrong for those who do go.

I finally got all my ducks in a row and it seems something else is going to throw a wrench in it this year. For me, a lot is going to depend on the agreement on the border closure next week, and the need for quarantine when I cross the various borders on the way.

Yeah, I haven't officially scrubbed it yet, but it's getting to where I'm not really feeling it. Hard to guesstimate the crowds/vendors, etc. and since I mostly go for the swap meet section I'm really questioning although like said, I still have a reservation and a hotel room waiting.

I hate that I'm going to miss you at Carlisle Matt. Even though I'm not going anyways.... (Does that make sense)?
I'll get in touch when I get to Michigan this summer. I know we can still have some fun.

Well it's official. They announced today that the Canada/US border remains closed until June 21, to be reviewed again later.

" An agreement has been reached between Canada and the United States to keep the border closed to all non-essential travel for another month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced, calling it the “right thing” to do. He is cautioning that it could be months still before non-essential travel is allowed.

The extension on the existing agreement means that the border restrictions will stay in place until June 21, even as parts of both countries begin gradually reopening. The agreement, as it stands, exempts the flow of trade and commerce, as well as vital health-care workers such as nurses who live and work on opposite sides of the border. Tourists and cross-border visits remain prohibited."

At least that is within the cancellation time for the hotel, so I will not abandon ship just yet.

I am out for a few reasons. Wife and kid have health issues and not a good idea to vend there with close contact with many unknowns. Foreign travel will not be opened, and doubt the turnout will be 50% of what it usually is. Probably just eat my spots rental. If I know Carlisle they will keep postponing for as long as they can so they don't have to give refunds back. Has to hurt them pretty bad. Hate to do it but have to take care of the family first. Sure will miss it though. Hate to say this the only way this will not go into a few rounds is people just have to lock down, it will never happen in this country though, not our lifestyle.

I've said before that I wouldn't make it again this year before this all happened. I hope you guys can go but I wouldn't put too much hope in it unless it's rescheduled for the fall. With a Gov. that can't interpret statistical data and a Health Secretary that isn't able to recognize gender, how can they make an educated decision?

It is a screwed up state we live in. Hey I never got the sign language during official announcements. Guess they never heard of closed caption?

I’ll be going partly for the need of a road trip. Ohio EZ pass just notified me that the Plazas are opening this month on the Ohio Pike. Pa can’t be too far behind. Hell even Michigan is opening Up-North. Heading to the U.P. next week.
