What did you do to your C-body today....

Not a C body, but the stars finally aligned so I could take one of the cars out. We've had such crappy weather, it would snow and they would throw a bunch of road salt down... We needed the combination of a couple heavy rains, then a nice day.

So.. we took the Barracuda to the local park for a walk with the new puppy dog. His left eye is healing nicely from his surgery (cherry eye) and the fur around it is growing back. Still a little droopy though.

Took the wagon back to NTB today to have the Cooper Trendsetter tires I bought in February that were on sale to be mounted. The guy behind the counter had no clue about the wagon/older car. His comments were as follows:

1)We don't do custom wheels (Magnum 500's) I said they are factory steel wheels he said never saw them before.
2)We can't do a car without a vin number. I showed him the vin tag under the DashMat cover and the reg card.
3) He comes back after talking to the manager and said we can't do your car because we can't find any specs anywhere for proper lug nut torque specs.
At that point I was ready to just walk away but I was there so I said give me a couple minutes i'll get them for you. I called my wife to look it up in the FSM but she wasn't answering the phone. So I posted the question here and thankfully 413 responded and sent me the page from the FSM .So Info in hand I went to the manager and showed him the page from the FSM listing specs for all 68 Plymouth cars and he said ok they would mount the tires.
Finally after 2 1/4 hours they finished the job. That's why I don't buy tires at Sam's Club or Costco they have so many bullshit questions it's like they don't want to work on old cars. Ok so here is finished pictures. I went with 235/75/15 this time around car has had 225/75/15 on it since I bought in 2011 switched tires because of the age of the 2 oldest being over 6 yrs.

You need to learn how to mount tires by hand. It just takes a tire spoon and a little common sense. I mount the tires, the take them to Walmart to have them spun balanced. I just get tired of dealing with the stupidity.... Walmart isn't any better, but balancing is pretty easy.
 
I have a friend on the other side of pgh (35 miles) that has a setup to manually mount /dismount tires that does his own tires I forgot about him until you mentioned it. I know he said he can do up to 19" tires has a couple different size spoons and a frame from Harbor Freight to hold the wheel & tire.. I 'll have to go see him and see how he does it.
 
I have a manual tire machine set-up, works well for pulling tires off the rims...I've done at least a 100 tires that way, but it sucks for getting them back on. I have more luck getting tires back on with just a couple bars.
 
I have an old tire spoon and a can of silicone spray to mount the tires. To break the bead to dismount, I have an old bumper jack and use the spoon to take the tire off. Nothing else... Except a piece of cardboard to put the wheels on.

Did you know that the bottom of a Mopar bumper jack is slightly curved to fit around a wheel? It's in the FSM!
 
Still had to be worth the hassle. They look great on the wagon.

I bought my tires at my local Belle Tire. And had them align the car since I had the front end rebuilt earlier. I was impressed with this guys knowledge. Brought into spec and adjusted the T bars to correct ride height. Car had not been aligned since the front rebuild. And I always pop the wheel covers of before hand. You gotta have the touch the install these things without denting them.
 
Rapidtrans: I was there and had the time and did not want to search for another place to mount them.My mechanic that I usually take the wagon to have work done is now a man shop(owner mid 70 something) and is only doing light mechanical work and no longer has a tire machine or alignment rack. I just found out about alignment situation this morning so had to make appointment at another shop that he recommended.Sorry to see him winding down as been going to him for 25 yrs.He really knows old cars. Him and his son have a nostalgic hemi top fuel dragster that they run on the east coast son does the driving now,

Those wheels and tires look great on your wagon. What size and offset are the wheels?

Your experience with a national tire shop is pretty typical. I found a locally owned shop that does a lot of truck and agricultural work and take all my old car stuff there. They do anything I want without a blink and pretty cheaply.
 
TxDon; They are 15" not sure of the width or offset. were on the car when I bought them have never looked to see if the backside had any info stamped into them .
 
Installed my Retro-Sound speakers and converted Tayman radio in the Monaco. (Speakers fit perfectly I’ll add) But the spare tire mount location didn’t help. Ouch.
While dash was apart I finally installed the new dash pad purchased a couple years ago.
Then dyed the carpet pieces on console, door and kick panels to match the new carpet.
Yeah, its finally warming up in Michigan. Even in Lansing!:rolleyes:

Don’t imagine anyone makes that cardboard rear shelf cover. I assume it’s for sound or insulation. Suppose I’ll just piece it back together.

Old pad above the new pad. Old one appears to have been painted or dyed in the past. And vinyl is crispy as fresh potato chips.
New pad color matches the console pad color. Like the optical illusion this ipad camera creates.
The pads actually are identical in size.
Gotta take another break to cut the lawn.

67nykr :Great looking car what's the history on it. I worked with a guy years ago who's dad still had his dad's car which he bought new was the same color was from area just south of Pittsburgh.

Thanks! Love your wagon. My New Yorker was originally sold at Standard Motor Car Co, Baron Rouge Louisiana. I bought it from a guy in Shelocta, Pa. He had bought from another local guy. Prior to that I have no idea of it's history. I would have preferred a wagon, but I couldn't pass this one up.

I got inspired by Cbarge installing his upgraded headlight wiring harness on Maggie. I Purchased the same harness he did A couple years back with intentions of installing on my 75 NYB, but since she is now sold it’s going on the 77 NYB. super easy install to say the least. All said and done took me less than an hour. And most of the time we spent just tucking The harness in where I wanted it to live.. But essentially it’s plug-and-play. I am having a bit of an issue though with the headlight doors not closing once they lights are turned off at the switch. I’ve PM’d Cbarge for his advice. But other than that I’m very happy with the results..
