You can not legally register a car that has had the serial number removed and another vehicle's VIN added. I think that would be illegal in all 50 states. Somebody let me know if that is wrong.

Dave

The V.I.N. from the car is stamped in several places. If the dash and fender tag are from a different car I do believe you are committing a crime.

In AZ MVD will issue a state vin number. Obviously you have to prove its not stolen.

Yeah.....not a good idea. Get a state issued VIN and not let anyone worry about getting it confiscated.

In PA, I doubt they'd ever let you title this car if they knew the VIN had been switched. If you tried to title it with the VIN on the car now and they found out, you'd probably go to jail for committing fraud.

You surly could not do it in Indiana. Anytime a vehicle is brought into the state from another one, it must be inspected at the B.M.V. to make sure all the V.I.N. numbers are in place and match.

Should have an assembled title when finished, to be legit. Which will be a pain in the *** for insuring. As long as all parts are legally owned I couldn't care less what the states position is in regards to my private property.
Those assholes at every level from the Governor down to the newest LEO on the street decide what law matters to them and what will or will not be enforced.
If it was to get stolen now and stripped, recovery would be futile and the value will be affected in a sale vs a numbers matching car.
The car can be legally sold as it is, that's not a problem.
The headache is that you have to have documents of legal purchase for all parts. I doubt they exist for this car.

In OK, this would be an "assembled car", which gives the car a State-assigned VIN; i.e. OK1234567 with a State-applied decal. So long as any numbers actually on the car/parts don't come back as stolen, it's good.
