I was losing a bit of brake fluid over time and the master and booster looked rough. Sure enough the master was leaking back into the booster and the booster was/is full of fluid.

Getting the booster unbolted was rough. I think if I had to do it again I’d take the front seat out to allow for better maneuvering.

On to installing the new parts tonight.

Yes, you are correct. Climbing under the dash of any Formal is an excruciating experience for anybody over 5'2" and 100 lbs.
Wait until you have to replace the brake light switch with Cruise Control.

I had to take the brake light switch out to get the pedal bolt out. I’m actually worried I may have damaged it somewhere in the process as the brake lights weren’t working after I wrapped up for the night last night. Doesn’t look like anyone makes the cruise control compatible switch, so I hope I didn’t actually break the one I have.

Dont throw out your old booster. It could be used as a core for rebuild. Reman boosters are becoming scarce for some models lately.

I definitely will not throw out the old one. The one I’m installing is a reman from booster dewey. I’m debating sending this one in for a rebuild now as I’m afraid if I let it sit with all this brake fluid in it, it will be beyond repair if I ever needed it.

If it was still functioning correctly, I would have just vacuumed/pumped the fluid out of it if there was any serious accumulation and then hosed it down with a can of Brakekleen and buttoned it up.

Three or four ounces of brake fluid drained out the vacuum port when I tipped it over. Maybe I’ll hose it off, degrease it, evapo rust the outside so that doesn’t get worse and store it.

You haven't experienced anything till you've been under the dash of a Lotus! Whew!

My Dodge Omni is no treat either. Did the Booster in my Fury a week ago and was in positions I haven't been in years!!

Spent a ton of time with the multimeter trying to figure out why the brake lights stopped working after I got it back together. Turns out it was the fuse, which is a friendly reminder to myself to start from square one and check simple things first.

How I didn’t notice the door buzzer stopped at some point is beyond me. Oh well, back on the road and happy now.

Job well done is reward in itself.

Don’t kick yourself too much over not going to the fuse first to fix the brake lights. Been there myself many times. Seems the more we know and can do the more the simple stuff gets away from us.... for a while at least.
