Picture this 71 Monaco as a new car...

Y14 code is a “sold car” i believe. Somebody ordered that car.
I would have bet that was an executive’s company car.

So, why not the 440? The N is so uncommon in Vs it's curious.

Yes, Y14 is a sold car but, could that have gone to a dealer as show room fodder?

I wondered the same thing. If you're gonna load up a 71 Dodge C more or less to the hilt including a trailer tow package, why not get the 440? Strange. I guess it could've been an availability issue. I've read that, while the 440 was available in 1966 for Fury and Polara models very, very few were actually installed. Supposedly since the 440 was standard in the New Yorker that car got dibs on 440 production.

I just can't get past this back window, I'd have to pass no matter how good the car or the deal was.

What! Are ya kidding me? That is a GREAT looking back window. And seeing that pic from 69monaco surprises me. Another lime green 71 Monaco 4DHT does exist... <drool>

I've always liked that back window too. I must be high on the aspirin I took? I see things from time to time on here that i really don't like and pass on commenting, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Back in the day, we had a GK6 (Dark Bronze) and black VT and interior. 4HT, and I loved that concave back window roof, as well (sorry, very polarizing topic!). Classy interior too, w/ those padded doors. Probably the best looking car we ever owned, but mechanically, every piece that could fall apart, DID. Learned to drive in it, still have a soft spot in my heart for it . . .

Just FYI . . . many of the 4HT 71 Monacos were some sort of a "fleet" purchase (although I don't have the build tag codes from our car). In our town (northern WV, near Pittsburgh), the C-P dealer got in a bunch of them in early 72, and sold them as "Factory Executive" cars. All equipped the same way w/ 383-2s, pick your favorite color. That's how we got ours, w/ about 14,000 miles on it. Did find out that it had spent some time in Florida - eventually found a map stuffed down between the trunk floor and the fender.

About 10 years ago I was visiting family near Phoenix, AZ and decided to do a little "rust free sheet metal" searching for my project cars. I visited salvage yards around the Phoenix airport and also Desert Valley Auto Parts.

One of the cars I stumbled into was a thrashed and trashed 71 Monaco that really fascinated me. Look at the fender tags of this car. Can you picture this thing as a new car? It must have been amazing. Almost certainly special ordered.

71 Polaras/Monacos hold a special place in my heart as one of my early cars was a 71 Polara Brougham 4DHT. Mine was a gunmetal blue example with a black vinyl top and black cloth interior. A funeral home was selling it and it was in excellent condition when I bought it. It had a lot of options like the top level stereo, power windows, power bench seat, power trunk lid release, a/c, the lamp package with door ajar and low fuel indicators, etc. Oh, it also had those beautiful 20# diecast wheelcovers that were first available for 1969. Man did I love that car but I sold it to buy a 1970 Imperial LeBaron 4DHT. The Imperial was a beautiful luxobarge but not nearly so much fun to drive as the Polara. I still have the Imperial but I wish I still had the Polara. Oh well.

Anyway, here are shots of the Desert Valley 71 Monaco:
So did you happen to take any other pictures of the car at the time? Would be interesting to see what it looked like!

No I didn't. It wasn't worth taking any pictures because it was a mess. Wrecked, partially stripped, etc. I did notice the two fender tags though and, once I scanned them, knew it was once an awesome C body. For reference, here's a pic of a 65 300 coupe they had. A mess, right? Glad I wasn't the guy behind the wheel when the even that created that mess transpired.

Agree on the back window!

As for the color, the photo is not GJ4 — the car pictured is GF3. The two colors look similar in bad weather but GJ4 pops in the sun. It is one of my favorite ‘71 colors. @71Polara383 recently parted a two-door GJ4 Monaco: here is a photo showing the color at its "patina best."

PS: This said, @69monaco's photo is close — It shows a 1971 DH43 Polara Brougham with green vinyl roof and the correct wheel caps.
