1965 New Yorker rear bumper damage

1965 New Yorker wagon, my rear bumper is dented to the right of the back up light.

Any backyard ways to get this closer? Chain and a tree? Just want my light to fit

Otherwise, anyone got a bumper close to Mn? What other models fit? Thanks!

Could you post a picture of the entire bumper? I think that would help to show the way it's bent better. I'm not sure about slabbies, but the fuselage loop style bumpers are actually quite easy to make tweaks to, once removed. I wouldn't recommend the chain and tree method, I once did it myself, it did not feel like I was doing the car a favour. That was a body on frame car too, probably not good for any car, particularly unibodies.

Pull the bumper off, put appropriate sized blocks of wood under the dented sections and go at it with the biggest hammer that you have. That may get it where you need it to be. Otherwise it might be easier to see if Wildcat MOPARS or Murray Park or Marty at Arizona Parts have a good used one.

I would pull the bumper and use a press to straighten it, you can shim the bumper with some wood blocks to get straight pressure on the damaged area. Chains have a bad habit of causing more damage than they repair. The other choice would be to contact a bumper re-plating shop, they have tooling for repairing damaged bumpers.

Nope. I agree with DaveaLux. You have to have the right metal bracing behind the area pulled and it's too easy to tear the bumper or as said above, make it worse.

If you take it off you might find an old school body shop that might be willing to try and straighten.

Don't use the chain and tree. It will pull on and bend the bumper brackets, bolts and then the frame. About the last thing it will do is straighten your bumper.

As has been said, either take it off and beat it into submission or send it to get it straightened and rechromed.

hard to tell the scale of things by a picture. do you have room to get a scissor jack behind it?
not sure of the width between the indented and raised area of the bumper, but maybe a 13# slide hammer from harbor freight or similar would pull out the top portion , right about where the upper circle is.

the lower circle needs to come down and out. maybe get it up in the air and use blocks of wood and something like a wide pry bar to pull it down and then out.
