Hey there, hope you all are doing well! I am planning on building a "hot stock stoke" 318 poly. My question is since these engines come with a solid cam should I keep it that way? Or goe with hydraulic cam and lifters? What are come of the pros and cons to both? What is more durable? Which has less maintenance? Thanks guys!

Do yourself a favor and simply do a top notch stock rebuild.

I will be using Gary Pavlovichs' guide to build a hot stock stroke 318 poly. Obviously when the engine is apart things that are deemed a necessary replacement will be. You can look at it like a budget build I guess
 
318 Poly with solid lifters was highly reliable and seldom had cam related issues. Do not mess with something that has a proven track record.

Then I shall stick with the solid cam and lifters!
 
Another note: Once the rockers / solid lifters are properly adjusted, they can go a long time, before another adjustment is needed.
Ok, good to know. The car ill be working on is a 1965 fury II. I bought it needing a valve job, so we are going to mill the heads while we are at it clean up all the valve seats, port and polish heads, looking a going with a 264/.450" ([email protected]") 110LC solid cam. Along with some other things while the engine is torn down. Ill be replacing the converter as well since that will be right there and then gearing will be next.

Keep in mind not all 727's have the same input shaft and that limits your choice of convertors.
1966?? and older do not interchange with 67 and newer.
For example, an aftermarket convertor which caters to the "newer" 727 will not fit your 727..heads up.

Awesome thank you! This is good knowledge! We ran into issues with a shop that had put in a cam in my father in laws 66 charger which also has the poly 318, they thought it was a regular 318 and we were like nah its poly and we couldn't stress it enough, so the cam isn't going to work with it. They put that in any way and it ****** up all kinds of ****.

The one that comes to mind is Lupo who can custom build a convertor to fit your engine/cam/gears/tire combo.
They are hard core Mopar people at heart and top shelf quality.
Not cheap but as I mentioned not much out there for the older 727's.
