On a 69 300 vert. How to remove the latches. I have the 3 nuts off but something appears to be hold the linkage. It’s loose but won’t come out.

I asked a question about adjusting these deals and @Big_John pointed me towards Chrysler technician training films about adjusting and repairs to the convertible tops. Maybe he’ll chime in with the link cause I’m not sure how I’d find them again.

I watched the film and then decided you know what they work fine...

I can't remember exactly how they come out. I did take a pic of a spare I have.

4 holes, it looks like 2 from the bottom and 2 into the threaded holes, possibly from the top. As I said, I just don't remember.

Thinking about it, it seems like the header panel has to come off... Geez... I can't remember.

Yep I think the header has to come off too. It has bolts holding it down. So I guess I’ll remove those rusty suckers. Thanks Big !

I had to fix one of mine a few years ago and can't exactly remember either. I believe I had to gently remove the weather stripping at the front and unscrew the metal strip to access a couple of bolts.

I just replaced both of mine over the winter with a couple of very good used ones out of a parts car. I have a few pictures. The hardest part for me was resetting the Lach return spring.

You take the weatherstripping off , then the metal strip. Then push up the end of the Spring till it in hooks to release the tension on the lach. Then Undo the four bolts and wiggle it out. To put the new one in you pretty well reverse the process To put the new one in your pretty well reverse the process. I made a special tool to rehook the spring, Re-hooking that damn spring was the hardest part of the whole job . When I get back home on Monday I will take some good pictures and go through the steps of what I am talking about . These are all the pictures I have on my phone at the moment

I know but it’s kinda the same sport. I just meant it’s so dang complicated you really need good visuals or it could really go south.

I watched the film on just adjusting them, not even including taking it apart and it’s a huge job.

Good luck don’t give up like I did Lol!!!

It’s not that bad but you need a Lot of patients. I Had two convertible tops and one convertible parts car to get 2 good latches. I got my experience from them. I used a modified 6 inch C clamp to re-hook the latch spring once the latch was installed. I ended up doing the first one 3 times till I got it right or until it worked. The second latch took about 15 minutes after I knew how to do it

My latches absolutely suck. The whole thing came up because “the boss” wanted to drive it to work on some nice top down days problem was she can’t latch the top to save her tiny life. I told her just leave the top down all day nobody’s gonna mess with it. But she wanted to put the top up if it was cold (anything below 70°) on the way home.

Well I figured how hard can it be? I watched Big John’s movies and figured I’ll just buy her a rubber mallet. Problem solved...

I’ll be watching this so I can see how on earth you got them apart. I didn’t get near as far as C body Bob did before I quit.

For my tools to fit , I had to suspend my roof at the balance point with a tarp strap . You will see it in the pictures. I used a 1/4” ratchet with socket and a open end ratchet end wrench to get the 4 small bolts out . With the roof at this position you have access to all parts

Where did you find the film on how to adjust them ?

Big John had a link to a factory training film. It showed how you start by adjusting and aligning all your WINDOWS after that then you start at the back of the top and moving forward with your adjustments it puts everything in order and the latches will latch with ease. Not what I was expecting...

It was simply beyond my skill/patience to even attempt it. I just told my wife leave the top up or down when she drives it. I’m probably never going to fix it until I replace the top.
