For a '69 C Body with a dead battery, is it possible to lower or raise the top without power?
Battery not available right now. Does some linkage have to be disconnected, or will it move slowly by hand?

Disconnect each cylinder , one nut each, easy enough.

On a 69 there is a pin at the top of each cylinder. Remove the pins and the top can be manually operated. Still awkward though.

$hit man. . . Throw a cheap battery in it, and lower / raise the top. . .

I am trying to assist someone who cannot throw a battery, loosen a nut, or pull a pin. I don't have access to an owner's manual to see if there is an "emergency" procedure to move the top. That's why I was asking here.

On a 69 if there is something in the wrong place in the trunk, there might well be a "break glass" procedure.

Thats not an " in case of emergency break glass" procedure . Thats a " I'm a big dummy " mistake.

Are you trying to put the top up or put it down? If the top is up, leave it alone until you can round up the basic resources needed to diddle with it. If the top is down, and you want to put it up, try using the jumper cable trick.

That's the best advise your gonna receive. If your not capable of following any of these procedures then you have no business trying to help.

Well, thanks to those who provided the correct answer. There is no emergency procedure. That's all I was asking.

Sorry to those who were offended by my trying to help someone who is not mechanically inclined.

So. . . What's your plan for this car?
