please have a look on the self adjuster.
It is screwed out wide (red Arrow) so that the drum does not drag (correct adjustment)

Drum is new
Brake shoes are new
Hardware is new
Adjuster is new

Selfe adjuster look like worn out shoes ???

any idea ??

It is hard to tell from the photo but it looks like you may have the adjuster installed on the wrong side. The tab on the adjusting cam should pull up to move the adjuster farther out, looks like it is installed to where it will be shortening the adjuster.

I thought with new schoes and new drums there should nothing or only a little visible from the thread ?!

From your picture it looks like the parking brake arm is not seated towards the rear shoe.

?? there is no other way to mount the parking brake lever ??
What can done wrong ?? It's like described in the FSM.

Brake 11 Inch.jpg

In your picture the arm looks like it is not seated all the way to the rear brake shoe. Almost like one of the cables is applied.

If that was the case wouldn’t the adjuster have to be turned in more to get the drum on because the shoes would be extended out, same as applying the brakes. Also if the cable was stuck the shoes wouldn’t contact the upper pivot point. As long as there is plenty of thread left in the adjuster you should be fine.

I checkt the assembly one more time - parking brake lever ist mounted correct - shoes have contact to the upper pivot point - both parking brake cables are new - parking brake lever is as near by the brake shoe as possible.

Maybe everything is correct and there is no problem with the thread of the adjuster. I thought when all parts are new, the adjuster should be close.

Thanks to all

yes, the harware including the adjuster is from R..auto (means china)

yes, parking brake cable was totally slack

The other possibility might be that you have a 10" adjuster installed on 11" brakes, if you have your old adjuster, check to see if it is the same length as the new one. Previous post is correct, there are always some threads exposed even with new shoes.

Oups - i dont know that ther are differnet adjusters for 10" or 11" brakes !! With my old adjusters, i had the same problem - but i also dont know if these adjusters are correct.
Do you know a source for this kind of adjusters (left and right) ?
Rockauto has no information about the size of the brake also Summit-Racing.

www.classicindustries.com shows a listing for the 11" adjuster kit, note with 11" brakes the kit is the same for B,E &C bodies. There is a left and a right so you need one of each.(They are threaded in opposite directions) If you ordered an adjuster kit for 11" brakes, you should already a kit that is correct. The cable on a 10" kit would have been too short for your application. Nearly all C-Bodies had 11" brakes.

I would leave it alone. It looks to me that you have about 9 turns out on your adjuster. If you look at the picture from the FSM., you have about the same. You have the left hand threaded adjuster which is correct for the left hand side. Put the Drum and wheels on and go. the adjusters will do their thing as needed when you back up and put the brakes on.

Thanks to all - i ordered the parts from classsicindustries and keep you informed.
Maybe it's only "cosmetic" but i will try.
