Does anyone know of any vendors selling trunk carpeting? I find the rubber pads everywhere, but IMO they trap moisture and cause rust so I'd rather carpeting in our 300's. (The New Yorker had carpeting from the factory). I've checked many sites however and can't seem to find any. I'm thinking I may just have to buy a piece of flat carpet and cut it myself.

The New Yorker also had black hard-cardboard covering the wheel wells. I don't think I've ever seen repos of those either.

If your not worried about being original make your own. I cut and fitted carpet in mine and for the tire I cut a board to the right size and glued it to a vinyl tire cover. Then I made side covers to protect the quarter panels from getting banged. Works well.

I know that your 300 is a '68 slab, but I have the same issue with my fusies. The rubber pads may be everywhere, but the correct pads are not -- either the pattern does not match, or the dimensions are off, in my experiences thus far.

I've taken the original mat out of my 1970 Polara and will be bringing it to the upholsterer who did Medina's seats for measurement and proper cutting. If he gets it right (and is reasonable cost-wise) for my '70 'vert, then between Wyatt and myself we have a bunch of fusies that will get the part. I've told the upholsterer that there may also be good demand from FCBO members, especially since the trunks are the same for a number of P/D/C fusies.

I bought a cheap piece of closed loop automotive carpet on eBay and laid my old mat out and cut a new one. The only problem is there is no edging. That was no big deal for me and the carpet looks fine.

If you want to edge it, you can do this. I didn't, so I can't tell you if it works as advertised, but it looks good. Instabind Black Carpet Binding - Sold by The Foot - Regular Binding | eBay

When I bought my car, this was the custom trunk upholstery. Very, very nice, but hoooboy.....when that stuff gets wet, we're talking a serious amount of water in there that will NEVER dry. So I ditched it and went back to the OEM look, and it's much easier to check for moisture after a wash or a rain.

Uh-oh....here comes that bowling ball bag again! @Samplingman

The spray glue you see on the wheel housings is from that upholstery job. I've since removed it....it looked like RUST!

The trunk dress up package is hardly seen and in my experience a uncommon option
I presume the more initial expense of the car the likelihood a buyer would spring for it.
One of my Polaras had it and it was in remarkable condition. Not just a carpet, it had some kind of anti moisture backing on it
Much better than the greenhouse mat.

Hmmm, so in your case you like the rubber mat better than the carpet with regards to moisture.

I based my opinion on the fact that my NYer with it's carpeted trunk, for as bad of shape as it's in, the floor of the trunk was quite rust free except for two small holes where it rusted through from the outside. Whereas the 300, which is in exquisite shape overall, has surface rust in the trunk underneath the rubber pad.

The original dress up in the 70 Polara didn't have an edging, it was a raw cut.

From my POV, the rubber pad will retain moisture and rust a trunk out in no time (as I'm sure we'd all agree). BUT....it's easy to check underneath and very easy to get it dried out, both metal and pad. So, lesser of two evils. My issue is that the Hurst fiberglass decklid is slightly warped (aren't they all?) and can allow heavy rainfall or hosing to escape the "gutter" and get into the trunk. But if you have a good seal on the weatherstripping (which I'll never have) it's a toss-up to what you want. As far as I know, the Hursts all came with the typical rubber mat....nothing fancy back there after all the work putting Imperial seats in the car. :realcrazy:

Excellent information. Could you post photos of the edging and backing? Are you aware of anyone reproducing material?

I yard of 60" wide heavy weight upholstery fabric will do it. You can find them in similar pattern to the original rubber mat in Trace 300 trunk. I just finished mine. I hemmed the edges by folding it over with hot glue. Then because I had it laying around I sprayed the underside with black plasti-dip to make it non-slip. Not real thick just a coating. I think it will work out well. Just need the last of the spatter paint to come in and I can put everything back in.

Not exactly what I was talking about but similar. I could get pics of mine if needed.

You can burn the edge with a bbq lighter.

I used carpet from the supermarket “home” isle $12. It was tan but $4 of krylon later it’s black.

I didn't want to just stop the edges from fraying I wanted to 1) not have to cut all the edges 2) make the edges heavier to hopefully stay in place. With 60" wide I made about a 1-1.5" tucked under hem on 3 sides. No cutting. Then trimmed and hemmed the wheel hump side. This is more like what I have. With the hot glue it made a nice stiff bendable edge.

Yeah I painted carpet too. Used the Dupli color vinyl and fabric paint to spray my sun faded black interior carpet. Worked great. Not too crunchy at all. Will get a new carpet someday. Or may just steal and paint the foyer carpet!!

Found their website, checked most of the listed vendors, Dante, National etc, except Jim's. I didn't see any cardboard pieces. Where to look?
I have a set tucked away in my shop - but to be honest, upon looking on the net I'm having trouble finding any listings too. Collector's Auto Supply lists it, but their picture is generic.
