Battery replacement

Thanks guys for the suggestion. @Trace 300 Hurst -- your battery looks a lot like the Napa Legend Premium that I have on Medina and Snow White. The latter would have a few more markings to deal with, though:

I've never used one of these, however my first thought was, will this affect venting? I'm sure it's not airtight, just being paranoid. If you look at the legendary battery topper website, they say to use the Delco or Sears maintenance free model's. That one in the picture you posted has raised vents and wouldn't work. You're only a six pack of plastic bottled coca cola classic away from having a vintage battery!

Ok, so I bought the faux battery top & sticker kit for my new flat top O’Reilley battery. Looks good. Problem is, my battery hold down is just a tad too narrow to span the slightly larger repro cover -though very close and more importantly, the J rod that holds down that end is way too short to reach through the new cover- by about 1/2 in!
Looking at the pics you guys have posted, it looks like your J rods have plenty of length. Are longer ones available?

Mine does not have a topper, just the glue on caps, so my original hold down and the repro one worked fine. It did seem the repro one had a longer stud that went through the fire wall.

I trimmed my battery topper to fit with my repop holdown.
Just enough where you cannot see where it it trimmed yet battery is securely fastened into place.
Hope this helps

Mine is a sticker kit as well.
Same site as above. A guy in France reproduces them. If I recall correctly Green for the small power group 24, Yellow for the group 24 which went into 383 2bbl. ( red was an option) red for the high capacity group 27. 440 and maybe the 383 HP. I have a post somewhere that I wrote the application and color down. (For ‘68)

I used one of the sticker and cap kits on my Wal Mart battery. You and I know it's a fake but for the price it looks good. Battery Topper Kit and cap color chart

I’d love to see how you did it.

I would image there are many different lengths of J rods, but is the one you already have the longest one out there? Don't know. But you could could make your own J rod with 1/4-20 all-thread from the hardware store. File or grind the upper end nicely so it's not razor-sharp to an unfortunate forearm.

OK
I trimmed a little bit under each end of the hold down..Just enough not to be seen and not interfere with the hold down..
as shown..
