Wyatt convinced me to destroy my 71...

Another quick check for wander in the steering is tie rod angles. If you level the center link (shims under the tires, best to drive on them, jacking changes things). Then using a good not cheapy angle finder, check the tie rod sleeve angles they should match, if not you have something out of wack.

I kidnapped Tim and stole that damn car.. Tim said he didn't have much time
and I said I was taking it to my house,, and he was welcome to ride along....
Heyyy!!! I told you I was kidnapping him and stealing his damn car....!!!!
So off to my house we went.... I may have exceeded the speed limit a tad but
only cuz Tim was inna hurry.....
Here is proof that the car can make it further than around his shop...

That freakin' car drives like a dream... Handles well... Drive straight and true,,
makes good power, and is just plain enjoyable........

So I was nice and let Tim drive his own car back to his shop...
He will haffa tell you how it went...... :thumbsup:

If anybody knows @Xenon just a little bit, and also knowing the only way he likes to drive, you'd know he's being modest.
A "tad bit" over the speed limit is like close to 3 digits on the speedometer.

Ever since the decision was made to tear this car apart while having a few beers with Wyatt, the rebuild journey has had its share of ups & downs (but with a lot more ups than downs) since it all started on November 2nd 2019.

As everyone who’s read through this post knows, there has been many days & nights when some of the best car people I have ever met, gave their assistance and guidance to help me reach the goal of driving the NYer to Chryslers at Carlisle in 2020. Without their help, this would have never happened, and I am deeply appreciative of their generosity and devoted time over the past several months.

The main two contributors have been Wyatt & Xenon. Words cannot describe or account for the many “Thank You’s” I have already said, but do know this, working with both of you have made it all worthwhile.

During the past 8 months there have been many others in our C Body community here on FCBO that has given suggestion on this build which I have used, purchased parts from, or provided the direction where to buy parts that I either needed or wanted to replaced, responded to my PM’s, made suggestions on where to purchase items from reputable venders, and to those I’ve spoken with on more than one occasion when I had a question or two, has helped me get to where I am today.

Everyone here makes this forum unique in their own way. Additional “Thanks” go out to these well-deserved folks too:

Tomorrow begins the next challenge: taking the New Yorker on the 700 mile ride to PA.
Our caravan will make for a great time, and will give all of us who will be driving or riding together an experience not many are fortunate enough to do, and will certainly be a blast as we trek across the back roads and hills, through a few states to our destination.

I am looking forward to meeting all the rest of you guys at Carlisle. Hopefully we can all get together at a local food & drink joint, but if they are closed due to C19, the Homewood Suites place has room for plenty in their courtyard with several grills for our use.

Congrats Tim, looks super clean under the hood. All shined up and ready to go. Doing my own walk around on my 300 today. Pm me about the route were taking to Carlisle.
 
Haha yeah I'd say @Xenon driving "like he stole it" is being very conservative, it's not like him to keep it under 100mph!

So is the takeaway that Xenon did the alignment instead of the shop you had in mind?

Or after taking the stubframe off and rebuilding all the suspension components (right?) did the car just happen to get put back together perfectly the first time with no suspension adjustments/alignment and it just happened to be perfect driving "out of the box"?

No.! Xenon did not do the alignment....
It was done by a shop and is a story in of itself....

But if you would like you can ask Tim how the kickdown works...

Thanks for the clarification! Sounds like the alignment guy knew what he was doing unless, from what you are implying, Tim had to tell him how he wanted it done and perhaps it wasn't easy to convince him?

I think I now know where Tim got all his bad habits. You must have real confidence in your engine rebuilding abilitites as you definitely break them in with gusto!

I know a guy that has done engine rebuilds for a friend of mine and maybe me in the future, and when my friend took his newly rebuilt engine to an engine dyno facility to break it in on the engine dyno, he was shocked that after some initial run in, they did a simulated WOT run all the way to red line under full load as part of the process. No mercy was shown and the rebuilder said no engine he has ever put together has ever NOT passed that test. I continue to be amazed at what I learn that I didn't know by now..............................

I really like the feel of todays' vehicles in directional stability and turning effort as opposed to the generally lousy too light, lack of directional stability on C bodies with radials on them.

Hey Steve, if you want real road feel, stability etc. You need to drive a Caterham 7... or a Lotus, and I'm the guy to let you do it!:poke:.

It'll amaze you!

Steve,, it is a simple formula to follow when rebuilding an engine..
If you KNOW how it will be used then the builder should know how to build accordingly...
If you wish to discuss off site we can do that. :)
 
I had a beautiful 440 professionally built 30 years ago.
The installer took my Polara out and tore it up. I asked about the break in. His answer was, if its gonna break its gonna break now.
