We are trying to restore a 1960 Desoto FireFlite and I am trying to find out what the engine color and engine bay color? Anyone have any idea what should be show correct colors??

The main engine block, valve covers, intake, oil pan, water pump, power steering pump, etc. are aluminum silver. I have found high-temp engine paint in that color at NAPA on the shelf that I used on my engine.

The air cleaner, generator, oil fill cap, fan, radiator, pulleys, etc. are all semi-gloss black. Note that these parts were glossy, but not mirror glossy, from the factory.

The power brake booster is either the bellow style with the silver cad-plating on the end or else the solid black painted canister style in the same semi-gloss as the other components.

Hose clamps should be a natural metal color and the spring clamp style.

I believe the inner fenders are body colored. I will add a disclaimer to that comment that I am not positive if the Canadian-built cars were also this way or not. However, my grandpa's '60 Adventurer survivor that he has owned since 1961 and was built in Detroit has the same green on the inner fenders as on the body.

If you want to really do the details right, the spark plug wire boot on the distributor end for the #1 plug wire should be red. You can order one of those and the correct engine decals at: Quirey Quality Design Co.

I also highly recommend checking out www.desoto.org. You can join the club as a member that gets you many additional resources, free ads, a bi-monthly magazine, a yearly calendar, and a roster showing members with other '60's that may have parts. Also, there is a link on the website with some basic 1960 DeSoto information that is under construction you can reference.

I hope this helps.
