I drove the 68 at night for the first time the other night...discovered that the HVAC buttons light up. How cool is it that this still works on a 52 year old car???

My ‘68 at night.

Real nice! That's what makes these cars so great.. all those little things, and everything is analogue! Screw the digital crap!

(Saw the gauges and tach, but missed the AM/FM Multiplex!!)

What bulbs in the "bright" version?

Enjoy!

The LED's are bright, but the cell phone cam exaggerates the brightness.

Damn man...you have a CLOCK? I just have the grid but no clockworks.

Don't feel bad, it doesn't work. We have three 68's and the clocks don't work in any of them. The 68 New Yorker was purchased by my Dad in '71 and the clock didn't even work then

On the other hand, if his DOES work, I wanna know how!!

Actually, I have a plan for that spot where the clock is. It's still in the "proof of concept" stage though...

You should have seen them when they were new.

They had more of a greenish/blueish tint to them didn't they? That's what I thought to myself when I saw them lit up for the first time in our 300 we bought in 2017. My memory from decades ago was them being more tinted. Yet when we had the bulb assembly out they still had the blue plastic filters in place and they looked very blue. I wonder if even though those filters look good that maybe the tint is faded.

I have a few thoughts...small glass panel with Navigation or LCD gauges. Give a modern touch to a classic!

Years ago there was a member that made his 68 300 clock into a tachometer using the original face and hands.
It read 12 o'clock when the engine was shut off.
1PM was 1000 RPM and so on,LOL!!

That was my first idea for that spot, it's the perfect location for a tach. Another idea I had, for the 300 with the 4-speed, was to convert the gear indicator window into a tach. The rod that moves the needle is easily accessible. Just hook it up to a tach with a 90* sweep and there you go!
