Bess's ('66 Imp) map light won't shut off. Just finished up on some dash work( had to remove ash tray and radio to access climate control bulbs). Hoping I knocked something loose?
Any thoughts?

The driver for isn't open with your foot dangling out is it? :poke:

Most of the map lights come on when one of the doors are open, or you can turn it on manually while driving and the doors are closed.

Sometimes you can eliminate the simple things first. Then look to the map light switch being stuck on. Or you may have inadvertently mixed up a wire when working on the radio.

Haha! It's almost like you know me! No, doors shut and you're probably right. It's Bess though, and sometimes I think Christine is her cousin.
Thanks for chimin' in.

Does the map light come on with the dome light manual operation? You don't mention the dome light being on as well so probably not, but if it does, make sure that isn't on as well.

I created a link to a short video I made of the issue. Is there an easier way to post video?
Anyway, if the link fails, the issue is when the battery is connected, door lights come on, with doors shut. Get in, shut door, interior lights stay on. I discovered I can turn off map light, but then door lights brighten (they don't actually turn off, just dim, so ignore that comment in video).

Silly question - is your headlight switch twisted all the way to the left? Like most cars, my headlight switch turns on all the interior lights if I twist it to the left past the "full dash lights brightness" detent.

The map light should feed from the same circuit as the dome light? The dome light switch is a simple ground switch. When they fail, the dome light is always "on", as a result. I suspect the map light switch feeds off of that circuit, somehow. Downloading a FSM from www.mymopar.com would have the electric schematic in it, which should detail the circuits/switches involved.

Should be a ground issue, somewhere. Failed dome light switch, chaffed wire insulator, etc.

Just some thoughts,

CBODY67, I have the FSM and from what I can see, door switches and the headlight switch are linked.

Is there an in-line fuse in the circuit somewhere? A few years ago I had some interior lights doing really bizarre things (65 Dodge), and finally traced it down to an obscure fuse IN the wiring (kind of a tube-shaped holder a couple inches from the main fuse block, IIRC). When it blows, it allows electrons to back feed thru the wiring. It'll drive you nuts . . . !

Not that I have noticed or could find in the FSM.

Ok, went back out and fired her up. Everything works perfectly. So, either the problem is intermittent or those interior lights are on a timer (I guess).
Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

There is a delay timer option that was available - capacitve style battery thingy, typically found near the ignition switch.

I'd forgotten all about those!

glad you got it sorted out.

Lol... that'd still be a research question IMO... while I know thete was a courtesy delay timer with certain models (earliest I've seen that on is a 67), we don't know if Bessie has it. I'd still want get to the bottom of it.

I didn't see it in Mick's wiring diagram pictures...

Ok, problem not solved. Started her up, no issues. Put her in drive, issue reappeared (of course, this is all Ross's fault).
Anyhow, back to square one.
