Anyone here ever own a Dodge Daytona?

Back when I was a wee little one I remember my aunt had a brown Chrysler Lazer. So when ever I see a Daytona I think of that Chrysler.
Traded it in for a Buick Skyhawk because her sons couldn't bare their mom driving a Mopar.

Theres just one reason to buy a chevy vega.
Its to cut out or remove the rear window and weld it onto a 69 or 70 Dodge Charger (70 preferred for the front fenders needed) as the rear window plug and you'd be on your way to building a 69 Daytona clone car.

Speaking of Corvair's there was a real nice looking red convertible/white top one, not far from you $3,000.

Saw it on the trip down to Carlisle. It's on route 34 in Sherman's Dale.
Corvairs are extremely undervalued in my opinion.
The 66 Spyder (turbo, 4speed) is a good performing vehicle. I have a 67 vert in the queue. It is a non turbo.
I have seen them with a chebby small block in them and am considering going that way with it.

You want a Conquest TSI. Really fun car to drive, it stuck to the road like it was on rails and no front wheel drive torque steering issues.

I looked ta them Matt, same issue with the back seat...….or should I say, what back seat?

Throw a 6-spd into a crown vic. I'll walk ya through it.
A friend owned a '89 crown vic with police package and 351 back in 1992. what a great driving car that was. Actually, I have thought abt making my own stick out of a car that was not avail from the factory with one. Only issue with the big cars is they do not handle as well as the lower sitting stuff. Maybe one of those 6.0L newer Caprice police cars with a tremec 6? Will have to look into it and see how they handle.

no kidding. must not be in that great of shape for 3K though. I don't get up that direction often even though it is only 20 mins away. do you remem if it was 1st or second gen?

I just saw on AutoTrader an '06 GTO 6 speed, $10,000.00.
Same car.
Last GTO, Pontiac G8, Chevrolet SS, Caprice police.... Same car.
But the first 2 were available with 6 spds. I THINK the SS.
So go with them or use factory parts to swap into a Caprice.

@commando1 the gto has an issue with rear seat legroom too...…..which imo is ridic. I may be able to get by with it, have not looked hard at them. Even the late 80's t-bird turbo coupes have tight back seats when the driver is tall. I can afford a high mileage gto or g8. They are at the point now where the depreciation will be minimal. Just gotta be careful, I do not want something with a real short throw (yes, I know, I am the opposite of everyone else). I like the older stuff that has the moderate/long shifters. And the coolness of no b pillar does not exist on this new stuff.

I've had many FWD Daytonas, the majority of them being the 4 cyl turbo version. Like most vehicles, they can be dependable in stock configuration driven in a sane manner. New parts are very reasonable from places like Rockauto, as they are all basically shared throughout the K platform. Two small children is about all you could fit in the back and haul comfortably. Pass on any that have an aftermarket sunroof, they all leak. Pop up headlight failure is common, you'll want a 92/93 model with exposed composite assemblies if you'd like to avoid those issues. Good luck!

These were mine back in '88.
Black '86 Turbo auto had those gorgeous black leather buckets front and rear.
White is an '88 5 spd Shelby Turbo w/intercooler. This was a fun car to drive. Couldn't quite hang with a 5.0 Mustang but could beat most anything else and handled like a slot car.
Course like all fwd, you hit rough pavement in a curve and you had your hands full.
Both cars ran flawlessly while I had them. Only knock on the '86 would be the original center caps were black plastic. The first time you pop them off for an alignment or what ever they wouldn't stay on afterward. Fortunately my next door neighbor worked at SHAP and hooked me up with the later aluminum caps.

84 turbo-z was pretty snotty. highest h.p year if i remember right. 5 speed was weak under burnouts and power shifts
my brother had a shadow (87-89?) with a turbo and 5 speed. that had some pep too.

I worked at Plymouth and Dodge dealers in mid 80s. The thing I remember the most about Chrysler Lazers and Daytona chargers were center caps falling off on the lot on hot days.
The plastic center caps would expand in hot weather and fall off at night when they cooled.
In the morning it was part of my job and put the caps back on every day!
The car I remember the most was a Shelby CSX with a stick. It was fun car to drive.
Also the conquest TSI cars handled pretty good. They the speed racer steering steering wheels with the controls in them.

I'm thinking it was a later model. Looked halfway decent just driving by.
