The infamous 4-spd 76 New Yorker. Ask me anything.

I tried.

I offered last owner $7K last year -- I thought that was fair but he thumbed his nose at it. Why do you think he passed?
It is one of one, so it must be worth more than $7,000

Regarding the 2016 Lincoln MKS engines offered (from Edmunds):

Performance & mpg
The 2016 Lincoln MKS base model gets a 3.7-liter V6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. This engine generates 305 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for front-wheel-drive models is 22 mpg in combined driving (19 city/28 highway). That number drops to 21 mpg combined (18 city/26 highway) with all-wheel-drive.

The EcoBoost model is only offered with all-wheel drive and is propelled by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter that develops 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg in combineddriving (17 city/25 highway). In Edmunds testing, a Lincoln MKS EcoBoost dashed from zero to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.
Ford's own engines
Daughters BF has a 2001 V8 Lincoln LS that shared a platform with Jags. Seems like a ***** to work on or find parts for ... and $$$ to boot.

He’s getting rid of it

I know yours is in excellent shape though as I recall when you bought it and posted pics but didn’t know what all you had these days. Just wondered about the jag content if any which was a thing ... maybe still is dunno

PS I love driving my 96 Ram Truck too when I’m at homestead but just have the 99 Durango and 2014 T&C here. Eventually plan to have the Ram as the DD ... manual trans rule !!!
The MKS is totally different than the LS, I have worked on a couple LS's and I am not a fan

I have tried breaking into the server inside a mountain in the wilderness that holds the old original MoparFins data and got nowhere.
A lot of cool pics were on the Project: Insane-mission build thread. :(

Who took it over from Steve? I thought they kept the old stuff in archives.

Steve had all the old stuff.
Near the end (I hope I've got this right) Steve changed servers and I believe stuff was lost. On its deathbed, Steve sold it Allpar who nailed the coffin close. Lea @cbarge knows it accurately.

When monaco75 checked it out for me June 2019. Many thanks Zac for me and for posterity. Sorry Stan to call these up again.

Nothing against the seller .. people want what they want, and I NEVER criticize people or their cars. But I made best offer I could, based on pics, Zac riding shotgun, and perhaps my nostalgia-driven hope for somebody to save it before its too late.

C-Body Formal Four-Speed, posts #63 through #74. Not a basket-case to me, she's seen better days obviously. And its has GOTTA get indoors!

Lotsa pics and video for you all to make your own assessments about it.

Is that a regular B body shifter, it seems different looking from other pictures I have seen?

I guess it is the same, must be the picture.

Thanks, didn’t know prior. Why I asked. But assumed Stan was making good decisions.

Concur ... don’t desire to ever work on an LS and won’t

Nope. It's a NOS C-body Hurst shifter for a bench seat. It was probably the last one on Earth. Try finding another one.

I think I might have or have had one ... looks/looked like the pic.

not nos though lol. I’m sure that’s what you meant

I am in the market for a good used one... for my '69 Newp. Its a Hurst (believed to be B body like the tranny was before the OD unit I put in), but doesnt look like Stan's (not just the handle but the contours/bends as well).

PM me if you have C body, bench seat model you wanna let go? Thanks.

nice pistol grip. looks good in your car.

I have a couple of those in reserve for other non-C projects. I was looking for a "long-handle" version, and didnt know until this thread the C-body model was different than the B body one.

1) If I were ever to buy Stan's old car, first I would remove the scoops. Then I would have a shift boot cover made from crushed red velour. If there were any material left, I'd have fuzzy dice made.

2) As for Stan's desire for a manual Crown Vic (Crown Tremvec?), I may have mentioned, but Bondurant had those circa 2002. Only the instructors got to drive them, they were to teach 3 of us at once. I so wanted to drive that instead of the boring, de-tuned Mustang GTs.

That was twice my unmade offer... I would have mentioned it, but I really didn't want to talk to the guy.

i had the sense he wanted what he wanted .. but he was at $13.500 back then. $10.500 now. again, i am cool --sellers prerogative to seek all they can. fair price is whatever two reasonable people agree on in good faith in the end.

If its been outside another year, my offer ain't $7K today. that had a $1,000-1,500 premium over what I thought it was worth as it sat. oh, the buyer premium offer was a one-time incentive that expired when he blew me off. i'd still be a bit above your "unmade offer", but not much :)

the problem is its rusting "inside out". in my experience that means there's more rust than you can see and also that you can't remediate easily/cost effectively. And if people have been fiddlin' with the powertrain (engine and/or tranny-clutch) Stan built, some of the car's appeal diminishes

Five digits will be tough to get for him. I sincerely hope he does get whatever he thinks is fair and it settles into a more comfortable life without us seeing it every couple years for sale.

Wasn't there mention of a clutch replacement in one of the many ad's of this car?

I can just imagine the tire roasting this one has gone through since Stan has relinquished custody.

RE: Clutch.
I warn anybody that is considering a hydraulic throwout bearing on an A833 will be dropping the tranny a zillion times dialing in the throwout bearing adjustment. :soapbox:
Plus making custom modifications to the throwout bearing itself. :BangHead:
It sucks being the first.

FWIW, at the time I had a few conversations with a cupla guys over on Moparts about their experiences of trying to use a hydraulic throwout bearing on an A833 and they both gave up. It's uncharted waters.

The next person who even bothers to try and adjust the clutch on the NYB will need to be walked through it. But only if it's a long time member. Everybody else is on their own.

The engine was hurt rebuilt according to the propaganda board for the car... IDK how that's done without disturbing the clutch. So the amount of Stan's actual workmanship left in this car is way less than you'd hope. That plus the rust creeping out of the edges were the deciding factors in my evaluation and pricing. Probably be hard to buy build cores to duplicate it at my amount, but a total crap shoot regarding what you'd get into trying to debug her.

AFAIAC, a fair running engine that hasn't been opened is a build core... but one that's been rebuilt is likely to be ruined. I've seen some crap survive a few hard dyno pulls, that you wouldn't want to have to trust to get home at the end of the day. Folks that want to recoup their rebuild expenses need to have the clout of a serious reputation at the minimum.

To be fair, I'd need to drive the car around a while to develop faith in anything... including a couple of nice cold starts and a little extended trip. Give the right conditions for the gremlins to appear. I don't like flipper speak or the whirlwind of BS that this poor lady has endured, and its made her tainted IMO.

The only fate I could get behind is someone bring her back to Fumbuck standards, but the chances ain't good. Regardless of the starting price, it could only be a labor of love.
