How to make some torque with a 68 318

Are those A body manifolds? The one looks like the upsweep to clear steering gear. Anyway, I think you can get where you want with the 318 but you end up beyond in $ and effort from what a 360 would be. A 340 would be great but I don't know how available they are and most likely pricy if you do. 360's are far more available and reasonable, the crate motors are great and I don't think you need to worry about externally balancing them, (though that's not a huge problem if you do). You might even find an already built one for sale you could put right in. My two cents, good luck!

Edelbrock SP-2P.

Gobs of torque, runs out of steam at 4k.

Isky Mile-O-Mor cam will add even more low end.

Throw away the 318
:thankyou:
The only post that breaks through the BS that everyone is slinging.
1. Live with what you got and enjoy the ride. What are you looking to do? Eat Mustangs at each stoplight?
2. Drop in a built 402 Small Block and be done with it.

Everybody buys C-body cuz they're cheap but expect a GTX....

I have a 70 A34 440 R/T with console 4 speed and 4:10 Dana.
I just want to be able to still be going 60 at the top of a hill on the freeway.

What's your engine rpm at 60 mph with 4.10's? How fast is a new Mustang anyways?

All numbers matching
I’m second owner had a repaint in the 90s
115,000 miles it runs and drives great and doesn’t rattle inside while your going down the road.
Just how would you exchange Bitcoin for cash?
Always wanted to ask but didn’t know who to ask!

Seems to me you have the best of both worlds.

As mentioned a dual plane intake and small 4bbl works wonders. Dual exhaust-Not 3" dia pipes- that will kill the low end.
The mileage/rv cam would do a lot. If you go that route pull the heads and rebuild them along with a little port smoothing. Remember you want an engine that makes low/midrange torque instead of hi rpm power.
The 318 is a great little workhorse. Improve on it but don't try to make it something else.
I wonder...will the larger 2bbl carb from a 360 or 400 bolt on the 318 manifold? Its been a long time but it seems the bolt pattern is larger. Maybe a used 360 intake and carb would be easy and cheap. Might wake it up a bit. Thoughts, anyone?

Or...listen to the wife.
