Does anyone know how to reattach this trim? Not sure if I need to remove the clips first. They don't want to budge. I can't see the back side of the clips to tell how they are attached. Don't want to do damage. Thanks.

IFF those clips in the pic are original, then roll the sprung extension down in the little groove behind one edge of the trim, then snap the other side of the trim onto the opposite side of the clip. Those don't look like original Mopar clips, though I may well be wrong about that. They look like replacements, very similar to some I bought at an Ace hardware in order to replace some trim on mine. Browse around the web a bit and see if you can find out what clips are supposed to be on that Newport. At any rate, those things forgive some handling and replacments like them DO exist on shelves and in warehouses. Take heart!

Those are original Mopar stud clips. On the backside there should be a speed nut with mastic.
You should see them in your trunk.
Those kind you really need to put them in the trim. Align the studs to the holes and install. May have a nut like this.

Or an open faced nut. Maybe hidden under the trunk splatter

After further investigation (removing the battery and the reservoir for the washer fluid), I was able to find the bolts on the inner side of the fender and reattach the trim. Thanks.
