Hi,
some month ago the power sterring lever of the car ( in the steering box ) broke.
I had a new one made :
WANTED - Power steering valve lever

*Just so you know : the car is not near me a friend does the repairs.

So he replaced the lever but now when he starts the car, when there is pressure ( by the steering pump ) the car steers to the left by herself.

Do you know what can happen ?

be careful test driving it!

you have to get that thing centered - you are off too much to one side and is making too much pressure that direction.

that thing has to be balanced middle - that little valve piece on top. you can move it side to side and that will make it turn, like you are seeing.

when you go test drive, go SLOW until you are SURE that thing is balanced left | right or its gonna kick in and throw you way far left (now) or right if you move it too far the other direction.

try not to die -

I have two questions, does the steering turn slowly, or does it go all the way to "Lock" rapidly? If it is slight, their is an adjustment for this, if it is rapid, you probably damaged the gearbox when the old valve broke. whatever you do, DO NOT START THE CAR WITH YOUR ARM THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL OPENING, I have seen people get seriously injured from this.

The centering procedure is outlined in the FSM www.mymopar.com.

I believe the procedure is done with the front wheels off the ground, the front of the car supported by quality jack stands. A "tap and try" method. No "plug and play" on this one.

Enjoy!

Loosen very slightly the bolts on the valve cover (piece with return hose coming out), 2 bolts on opposite corners. With the engine running tap the cover one way or the other. One direction will make it self steer worse the other direction should ease it. Tap till you can steer it back to center and it will stay put.
As mentioned do this with the wheels off the ground to ensure it is truly not self steering, and being masked by tire friction..

Get it adjusted so when you start the car the steering wheel does not turn either direction. This is with both front wheels off the ground.

there is no sense driving a car that self steers because it will help you crash and ruin the ps pump.

thanks for all your answers !! I follow to my friend and come back to you

he told me that the cars steers as if someone was steering left. Not very hard and not very slow.. D but it is surprising.
