Anyone here know of a good carpet dye for the mid to late 60's era style of carpet, preferably in an easy to use aerosol can? I've never tried this, what are your experiences with doing this? Can you recommend one for me? Hopefully something that isn't going to leave a long lasting odor. Thanks.
Ken.

I wouldn't think that an aerosol wouldn't give you the penetration you would need at a reasonable cost, the carpet would suck it up as fast as you could spray it.

Yeah, I don't know how its done or what methods are available, but I like easy. Lol.

Try carpet spray! I think I got it at AutoZone. It is made just for carpet! I used it on the carpet in my car and it looks great.

Duro Coat makes vinyl dye in a spray can. If you clean your carpet and put it in the syn for as long as it takes to get perfectly dry, this will work. I used it only on a black carpet, so I'll only attest for the black color.
First fluff up the carpet with a stiff bristle brush and vacuum it, fluff it up again. Lay it in the hot sun and start spraying from one end to the other, wait a few (15 minutes) then spray on another coat top to bottom. Mine hid all the sun bleached areas in two coats this way and it came out looking new. (Remember the carpet was black). My carpets of course were of vinyl material not cotton or wool some foreign cars have. The secret is to get ALL the duat and dirt cleaned and vacuumed, and get the carpet perfectly dry. I might add the sun also disinfected it while drying out for a day in the sum. I had great results doing it this way, simple, easy.

I put it on the carpet about 3 years ago. It still looks good. But my car doesn't get out much.

I did the cloth seat inserts for my Imperial twenty five years ago. Still looks great using Rit Dye. I would buy a kiddie pool or area large enough to do your carpet. If its alittle over size then cut to fit in the car first, remove and dye it.
