Has anyone ever tried the 518 in a C body? I always assumed they wouldn't fit in the tunnel.

Gotta love a blue Imperial! He has the original engine, and all parts to bring back to stock. I would give the poly a chance. Bored over, and rebuilt, it likely has more power than the original smog 440.

I would be more concerned about the GM throttle body. Those are getting hard to find parts for, literally a 30 year old system that nobody uses.

heehee you are prob right grant

Someone does not understand the laws of physics. Takes the same amount of energy to move the car from the bottom of the hill to the top. Only way to use less gas is decrease parasitic losses/less friction or reduce weight, neither of this was done. 46 is a 727 with more weight and 318 although smaller bore and stroke still has STD tension rings at 5/64. Better on the highway because of OD. 15 is nothing to brag about.

I Like the color blue but that's about It ! If the owner wanted Good Gas Mileage he should have bought a Damn Rice Burner. Must have had that Small block lying around. Just Sayin'

NOT much to go wrong with the GM TBI system. Easy to work on and replace injectors. Sounds like the early Affordable EFI (brand) fuel system. FWIW

If the 318 Poly was stout enough to pull the Travco motor homes, that Imperial should be easy for it. Hate to think about the OD gear ratio with the factory rear axle ratio! Plus the cruise rpm in OD at 60mph! Compared to the orig 440, the 318 would be lacking some torque off-idle with the factory rear axle ratio, whereas the old Travco probably had a 4.10 in it.

Enjoy!

Agreed on the GM system, there was a huge following on them, at least there was 10 years ago. Probably still is somewhat, as not everybody automatically jumped on the LS train. And guys willing to convert to that system might've been content enough to stick with it, as we're all getting older and less inclined to fix things that aren't broken.

One hot setup was to get an early 454 TB, pu on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, install 4.3 V6 injectors, and run them around 30psi. Reportedly that gave equivalent flow but with better atomization and better MPG. I have a whole tote of Megasquirt / GM TBI stuff in the basement, then life got in the way.
