seen..GT

In looking at this car further, the condition of the body code plate and other aspects of the engine compartment, the inner door opening area, the rear valence, the underside of the decklid and other notable highlights, I have to wonder whether the primered lower body areas are really pretty bad or the primer was more of a protective effort rather than significant rust. The condition of the seats and even the dashpad looks surprisingly good for 90+ thousand miles.

With only a 22" radiator, it is no surprise to see an electric fan in front of the radiator, and was the only reasonable way to keep those cars cool in traffic conditions in hot weather short of putting in a 26" support and radiator.

Given the 69 300 door panels, the owner probably sent in the original panels to SMS and three years later is still waiting to get them back like I am for my 70 GT. :wideyed:

"The carpet and head liner and complete dashboard were replaced at some time"

I totally agree.
I have a SFGT with the 22" rad. Radiator is completely new recored and the engine rebuillt. No sand, mud or whatsoever in any waterchanel. But if it is hot outside (more than 90F) and you are just idling in a long traffic jam temperature goes up to 215-220 F.
Still ok but already relativly close to the limit.

You might well be right, but I don't remember the chrome accent strip. I have one sport fury with buckets and the accent strip is the same color as the rest of the headrest. But, since I bought the car in the '90's, I do not know if it is correct. I will defer to your judgement.

Referenced a photo of my 1970 Sports Fury GT that I owned in the 1970's through the mid 1980's. Its shows a chrome band around the head rest confirming that chrome accent strip was indeed correct for 1970.

If he's driven it for several 300 mile trips without the transmission kickdown hooked up there will be some issues with that transmission.

No way a 727 is holding up to several 300 mile trips with no kick down....it would be toast within the first trip. A buddy years ago toasted his rebuilt 727 because he did not hook up the kick down...dead at 125 miles.

For the record, I LIKE FY6 later GY8 gold metallic. If it's really numbers matching, this is an interesting car.

No bids. Seller has dropped both opening bid and buy it now. Rare to see original paint/stripe. Head rests are correct as are seats. Core support has been painted as originally it would have been blacked out. Wheel lip moldings and rocker moldings missing, begs questions as does primer on lower areas. Rare to see a rocker rust out on a 70 Fury but quarters yes and front fender dog legs yes. Need trunk floor pics, however no vinyl top cars less likely to have rusty trunk floors. Kay Chrysler Plymouth was a MN dealer so it was sold in MN and is still in MN so a rust inspection highly recommended. Drivers door panel appears to also be from a 300 as Sport Fury would have been carpet on lower 4-5 inches. Strange door panels replaced. Dash pad is from a 71 Fury as those 70 Sport Furys with a wood grain insert (not all had it) would not say Sport Fury. Was vin tag from original dash pad moved to new dash pad, no pic? Is motor matching or not? Is it that hard to check? Cool car, plenty of questions.

I recently picked up an 84 Dodge van that someone swapped the wrong carb onto and the kickdown not set up and the trans fluid was completely black and stunk.Never seen ATF that bad before.

I also see the vacuum advance isn't hooked up which is also a bad sign.Must have had cousin Billy Bob working on it.

Ebay listing/description is terrible, needs some paragraphs and structure, it reads like some awful talk-to-text ramblings.
But I did read it a bit, and the car is #s-match on engine, trans wasn't verified.
Rocker moldings are serviceable but need TLC, and 3 of 4 wheellips are included.
Trunk noted as solid and only 2 small metal patches that seem like were behind back bumper, but the ramblings / typos are rampant, so I'm not sure where the patches are.

Dashpad does seem 1971 as someone else noted, so the VIN-on-pad would be my biggest question on this car.

But aside from all of that, this seems to me like a good car to purchase and put some work into. Although, if you bought it at 12 and put 5 into it, what would it look like and would it be worth 17??? Needs to be bought by someone who can do the paint and body themselves, would be the only way on this one, otherwise shoudl wait for a 20-25k example and see what that $$ can buy?

I requested a pic of vin plate and he put another pic on auction. Those are definitely generic pop rivets. Now you have to wonder if they are the same hole size so you can go back to rosette rivets? He is a rambler on the phone too, hard to get any questions answered. I can't tell either where the patches were done? And I verified with my tranny rebuild guy that running without a kick down linkage will ruin bands and other components. Missing some high dollar pieces, door panels, wheel molding, and rocker moldings(need tlc-thats usually bad condition). I had to tell him where the vin was on engine, so he's really not a big mopar guy.

What are the holes in the cowl support next to the fender tag?
Are those rust holes or are they from something that was attached there?

So it seems the true value of the car is about 8K. Is that accurate?

That is an inspection tag, and those are the punch marks.

Oh, I see it now. Not sure how I missed that. I thought they looked like inspector stamps but just didn't see the actual tag edges until you pointed it out to me.
thanks!

I've been following this thread for a few days now and feel compelled to chime in. While I've never owned a GT, I've been very interested in them since the mid 80s. I'm not an authority on the cars nor on their values.
That said, I think this is a very desirable car and reasonably priced. Yes- it has issues, some of which might be expensive to fix. I know I might ruffle some feathers here, but the lack of AC is in my opinion a plus. And I suspect fairly rare in these cars. And the lack of a vinyl top is another huge plus. I know many members here are fans, but I believe the lines of the car are so much cleaner sans the vinyl top. Layer on a cool and not commonly seen color combo, original paint, and numbers matching engine and this is a rare and cool Mopar for the right guy. Yeah- it's a bit of a project, but we've all seen much worse. When this thing is all fixed it will be absolutely stunning and steal the show. I hope the right person steps up.

So, is 8K accurate or do you guys think the 11K is a good price.
I tend to think 11K is too much as there are no bids. If 13K was worth it then it would have been purchased already.

8k for a 70 GT that's not a wreck is a steal.. 11k is a good deal also but this car needs to be inspected first before one can estimate it's value. My 2 cents

Auction ended with no bids.
Per the listing, was a 1-time sale so we'll never see it available again.
But the seller says he wants to buy another late-model Dodge Challenger, and I kinda doubt that anyone that feels that way would want to keep a GT. Or list it with no reserve in the first place.

So I suspect we'll see it again. And presumably it is safe from a broker-flipper, who would need to buy it at $5000-8000 to be able to 'polish' it and double their money.
