I don’t get to post on here very often but recently I picked up a car I’ve been after for some time and I spent the last 4 weeks working on it. This is a 1971 Plymouth sport fury GT Canadian car, gold with green interior. Although it may never be original again it will for sure be on the road again soon with help from a 4 door donor vehicle.

I saved as much as possible from the GT tub, doors, roof, entire interior, all the interior panels and supports... cut the roof and all 4 door components from the donor car and transferred all parts from the GT. The majority or steel work is done aside from a few patches here and there but overall I’m pleased with the progress made on the car. Ok decided to respray the car gold and the only thing I will be changing appearance wise will be the strobe stripes from gold to black.

You lost all the GTs numbers by doing it this way.

But it was never going to be original again, so I suppose I understand.

If I really wanted to be anal about things I could cut them out of the fenders and firewall sections that aren’t completely buried in rust but the car was in a field for 30+ years and half parted out. This is my way of saving what’s left of it.

It was originally from Toronto and sat in an underground parking lot before being bought, drivetrain was pulled back in the 90’s for Someone’s b body and they just cut the frame and brackets with a torch and left the rest to rot in a field. Other parts were torched off of it as well. It does still have a lot of the numbers; I kept the inner fenders, rad cradle, fender tags, part of the firewall and I have a copy of the broadcast sheet also. So it’s not a total loss.

The vin is stamped in a couple spots. On the cowl and the trunk gutter, thats all gone now. But the car is saved and returning to the road. Thats what really matters.

I obviously know where the numbers are but , are we talking marrying a four door to a two door?Vice versa?
Its not what matters if some of the GT metal was put on the rest of the other car, then the GT didn't survive at all.

two options, either do it this way or rip the last good pieces off it and let the remains rot away on that junkyard... I like the choice
@Kaptain_Kon made, it´s real craftsmanship to rebuild a car this way and ending up with a good looking straight car again. Being
butchered already for the drivetrain etc it wouldn´t have been a #matching collector car anyways.

Keep up the work and keep those pictures coming in

Nice work, sure but its not a GT , its not THE GT. Its a four door Fury converted to a two door and nothing more. I'm not understanding why it was important to use whatever one could from the scrapped GT. Just to say you did?
To call it a GT?
To save the pieces from the GT?

I guess these words are haunting me "Although it may never be original again it will for sure be on the road again soon with help from a 4 door donor vehicle."
Thats where I'm getting hung up. That car is gone, never to be on the road again, EVER!
Nice work, wish I could even think I could do it. But...

I remember this 71 GT. IT sat in Nigel Mills yard aka National Moparts.
Good to see the car coming back to life.
Rare car indeed and build it for yourself.

Is it really the same car? I didn't think the body was as bad as this one apparently was. Call it a clone or call it whatever this will be one nice car when complete judging from the calibre of work being performed.

That was kinda my point with the numbers, cant even call it a "rebodied" GT at this point.

But another C will be on the road again soon thanks to the work put in! He can have ALOT of fun with it too and NOT worry about tearing up a car they only made 375 of.

The GT became the parts car. The 4 door is the one on the road.

I too remember the car on Nigels website, Christ gotta be 25 years ago the first time I saw it. Glad to see parts were saved.

Boy I thought I was brave with my undertaking, I applaud you for what you've gotten yourself into

This is more of a grey area as there was nothing left of the subframe or floor pans to weld to. As stated it would have never been original again even if I were to attempt to work with what is there (the frame actually split when loading it)

Let’s take all of these charger R/T’s for example that were rotted out beyond repair, have had every panel replaced and yet they are still considered a charger R/T.

I used about half of both cars, what remains of the 4 door is the pans, subframe, parts of the firewall and the rockers. The car is being restored in a likeness of what it was coming from the factory using a good majority of what it had from the factory. It’s a far cry to call it just a 4 door swap.

I am posting this more to show the progress of saving a car that would otherwise be crushed or parted out by most. I could have found a solid 2 door, primed it and posted pictures with the tags saying it’s original like a few cars on here (some of us know which cars they are) but I’m not doing that. So call it what you wish; I’m calling it a non-numbers matching restoration.

It's a very nice modified four door.

Which VIN are you using ?

The only vin I can use; the GT vin that is on the fender tag, rad cradle, and drivers door sticker. The 4 door was someone else’s parts car as well. I got both vehicles second hand and the 4 door had no ownership as it was imported as a parts car from the states.
