Hi out there. I have a stripe on my New yorker 69 that is uncomplete. I wonder if any of you know how far up around the c-pillar it goes (see pic).

Sorry I can't help with the stripe...but wow, I'd sure like to see more pictures of your entire New Yorker!

First, I assume the accent strip is painted, does it stop at the end of the door on both sides? Is there any evidence that the rear quarters have been repainted?
Hi
It goes all the way from headlights and should go up round rear side window, a bit lika the hurst 300. Its not painted, and yes the rear Q:s have had a repaint. Im pretty convinced its the originals, whats left of them.

I can't say what your accent stripes should look like but unfortunately it looks like someone put those on aftermarket, possibly dealer installed. According to the Stripes/Accents/Tops document info on Hamtramck Historical indicates only the Sport Fury has vinyl tape accent stripes and all but the Satellite and Road Runner had dual pinstripes where yours are a single stripe. I hope someone can come up with a pic of what the accent stripes on a New Yorker should look like.

It looks like your stripes should be like this pic. I can't find any 69's other than the first pic but the 71's are pretty close just slightly lower.

You might be right but still im puzzled. Mine sure doesnt seem like put on after (but might be painted, must check again). There seem to be three types:
V6* 69-71 Longitudinal Stripes
V7* 69-70 Accent Stripes
V8* 69-71 Transverse Stripes

Mine is the V7, wich did not come 71. And longiudinal is V6. I will keep searchin :)

Wow, your eyes are MUCH better than mine, I can barely see the stripe on the front fender. Congrats on finding a pic of one.

Yeah, you see it best on the shot with driver side door open… but its still quite puzzling… and im not sure if it goes upp round the rear window (sort of like the hurst pattern) or all the way back... or else. And if as you said its dealer installed i guess it could end up anywhere :)

Frederik, are you still searching for the correct higth of the accent stripe? Here is a photos from a 1969 Newport Custom. The car belongs to a fellow Mopar buddy and this was taken back in the day. Hope that helps.

I do not believe Chrysler ever originally had a pin stripe that curved up the rear C pillar on a fuselage car and they were all painted from the factory on Chrysler models. I see them often with pin stripes that do curve up the C pillar but that just tells you someone redid them maybe thinking that was correct when it just isn't if you are trying to have an original appearance.

Hi old man with a hat. That might be so. But it would be odd to have a stripe in that height, following that line and continue straight where the curve starts. And nobody first believed it was an original stripe. I will keep on researching.

@saforwardlook finding a Newport Custom (or Newport / New Yorker / 300) without V-roof but with V7 is pretty difficult - but this car is one. And the picture is from the early 70s. It got a repaint in the late 2000s and has taped accent stripes since then. But the original owner ordered it with the V7 and that was painted. Here is the fender tag:

And I can also confirm that the painted accent stripes on 1969 New Yorkers where also curved. This is a photo of a buddy's New Yorker and mine - a 4 dr HT - has exactly the same. Don't get confused with V6 longitudinal stripes.

But while we are at it: @Fredrik Scheffer the stripe on your New Yorker is taped, not painted, but in the place where I know it from V-roof New Yorkers. The stripe on the Newport Custom is below the light edge. But maybe it was located there on non-V-roof cars...

I stand corrected, as I took out my 69 Chrysler brochure and on the New Yorkers the pin stripe goes 2/3 of the way up the C pillar on a non-vinyl roof 4 door hartop at least. On the photo in the brochure, on the two door it is hard to tell if the car being imaged has a vinyl roof or painted roof, but the end of the pin stripe is hard to see. I would guess it ends at where the trim for a vinyl roof car would start.

The brochure also shows on a convertible 300 that there was available in addition to the 3 longitudinal stripes down the bodyside also a pin strip that goes up to the upper part of the body like on a New Yorker but on the convertible shown, of course it ends at the trim piece below the rear quarter window. They also show a very thin faint one on a 2 door hard top like that, but I have never seen any 1969 300 at least that had one of those single upper stripes on it. I have owned a few of the 300s at least but none of the 69 New Yorkers.

Sometimes factory brochures do not show what actually went into production since they are early releases, so certainty on a matter like this is speculative. For the New Yorkers at least it appears you guys are on the right track.

Thanks for the clarification.
