Fuel sender unit

I got everything on the dash working now except the fuel gage. The indicator comes off the peg and stops at the empty mark. Good signal and good ground. I suspect the sender. Has anyone had good results with one of the aftermarket senders on the market? Their pretty proud of the NOS units I've seen.

You sure you got gas in the tank, if so how much? You can pull the sender and test it out of the vehicle. Just leave it hooked up and connect a good ground wire to the sender unit. Have a helper supply power, as you move the float, the gauge will/should move. It may take a few seconds for the gauge to read float level. This has worked for me a few times. Good Luck

I had no problem.

They all seem to be from the same vendor, so shop around. My best deal, and quickest shipping, was Amazon.

I did solder a tab on the sender for a good ground... A much better, more reliable ground than the grounding clip on the line.

My adventures with gas gauge senders and a Meter Match, which while I used it to "fine tune" the gauge, and it was fun to play with, I don't know as I needed to buy one. Gas Gauge Fix

About six weeks ago I had the same problem with my 1970 Plymouth Fury gas gauge. Same issues and diagnoses. I purchased a sending unit from vansauto.com It works fine and I'm happy with the product. It came with a gasket and retainer ring.

The "guts" of the sender is the rheostat-type mechanism which the contact on the float arm "wipes" to vary the resistance in the circuit. In other words, the only "wear part" other than the float and the float arm's pivot point.

Anybody tried to clean-up the wiped comtact area, out of curiousity? Or see if the wiping contact has worn too much?

I tried, the little brass wipers had a hole warm in it, making it erratic. I think I talked about the pitfalls in this thread.
