I'd like to replace the gas cap on my 1966 Fury III Wagon. It sits kind of funny and doesn't make a good seal. I have looked but don't find anything online. Any ideas on where to get one??

Seriously?

Maybe look for a generic A body cap rather than a one off hard to find ‘66 station wagon cap. Sure looks like my old Dart’s cap...

They put these on tons of A bodies over at least a 10 year spread. Chrome and painted I believe.

As I understand it, there are about 3 versions of the A-body cap. Vented and non-vented and a couple sizes.

So.... If it is like the early A body ('66 and earlier), there is a reproduction out there that is supposed to be better than the original. I've never used one, so I can't attest to it, but have seen good feedback. Not cheap, but a NOS cap isn't gonna be either.

EDIT: See next post, because this isn't gonna work.

I had to know....

It looks like the Fury used its own cap. Doesn't even share it with the Dodge. It was the same part number for 1965 though.

So, it looks like an A body cap isn't gonna work.

I have repaired the cap on my '65 Barracuda though. I cut a new gasket and now it seals nicely. It doesn't keep me from leaving it sitting on the gas pump so I have to go back after it, but that's another story.

From the '66 parts book:

I forgot that while they fit, the Dodge and Chrysler full size wagon caps were slightly different than the Plymouth Fury wagon caps. The Fury cap has a "bent side" that fits the profile of the Fury wagon quarter.

Typically C body wagon caps were available as non-locking in body colour (typical assembly line issue) or optional chrome (chrome handle or black handle), and chrome only locking sold as an accessory by Mopar.

Here's a chrome locking:

This is what my T&C was equipped with from the dealer. These fit ALL C body wagons.

While there are none on eBay at the moment, PartsVoice reveals that Silke's has one correct FURY chrome NOS 2585386 in stock.

The only thing I remember about aftermarket caps like this, is that they are sometimes not clocked correctly. Much like the one in the pic I posted earlier...

My post above yours was partly incorrect - I've updated it. Yes, since the Fury ones have a special lip on one side that fits the Fury quarter profile, even the factory ones are often not "clocked" correctly. I believe the reason is that the actual locking ring or the handle could spin in the assembly a bit, making the cap's profile not line up.

The existing cap has a kind of wedge shape. I may take it apart to see if it can be rebuilt.

I will keep looking on eBay.

Agreed - Marty is one of the pre-eminent and highly respected NOS Mopar parts vendors. I've been buying from him for years. Not a lot, but I know that when I do, it's right, and top shelf quality.

Here's a pic off Google that clearly shows the right profile of cap for the 65-66 Fury wagon, with the right part number on the box to support it.
