I am working on my 68’ 300 convertible. It’s been years since disassembly of the top. I know the boot comes into play when the top is down. I redid the seats and speaker in the back. Boot was connected via aluminum rail to the upper rear seat. Pictures below. Does the boot stay on at all times and tucked behind where a package shelf would be in a non-convertible?

Hello. I'm brand new these cars. Just bought it last week. Mine (66) has separate tonneau cover that snaps on over the top (it does NOT look like a factory piece), but I don't have a boot behind the seat. I do see that aluminum rail on the back of my seat. I would think that the boot (mine's obviously missing) would just hang down in the recess behind the seat when top is up...I'd guess you're supposed to flip it forward over the seat, put the top down then put it over the top and snap it around.

Man, I just looked up the '68 300...I love that front end.

There is a difference between the "boot" and "well liner". You might be using "boot" to mean "well liner"?

To me, the well liner will always stay in place and separate the top from what's in the luggage compartment, including being a water shield of sorts.

What I'd term "boot" would be the cover that snaps over the lowered top assy for looks and suich.

Be sure to locate any body water drains in the c-pillar area and make sure they are open. With the top fully raised, the c-pillar fabric should "seal" against the outer edges of the surround moldings and trim, typically, but those drains are necessary should any moisture get past the fabric. Not unlike factory sunroofs having drains at each of their corners, too.

Everything looks good, so far.

That's a boot he has in his pictures.

The original boot sits permanently in the metal strip, so they fold over the rear seat until the top is down, then you flip it over and snap it in place. When the top is up you can push the boot into the well to leave the rear seat accessible and the rear speaker uncovered, But have to remember to take it out of the well before lowering the top again. Some aftermarket replacements don’t have this feature and when removed for the top in the up position can be placed in the trunk. My original boot is still in place (‘68 300). I am currently in Cleveland, But I should be home Thursday and will take and post pictures if you need them.

That would be great. If you can, a picture of the surround edge at the back would be helpful of where the snaps should be located. I am usurer now if the body person filled the holes around the lower rear by the trunk. I have trim pieces that I am unsure as well. Thank you.

Still top down weather here is California. Had my 68 300 out today.

Hoping these pics help, but let me know if you need more.
