Rear leaf spring shackles

From one of Critter's posts, this shows the offset on one side.

OOPS - my bad... the one side not assembled to the pins looks flat until you look at it more closely. My 66 T&C also has a one side flat offset shackle, so when I searched for 65-68 to find my old AC Delco link, those came up from Mitchell's and without even double checking I just assumed they were the same as what my car has now.

Sorry! :lol::canada:

Someone has messed around with those leafs in the past. The first spring on the main spring has been cut, and is still too long, as seen in the one picture posted. Who knows what else is wrong. I'm sure the new springs will be a massive improvement.

This was a pic from another members car .
I just needed a pic of the shackle

I have a set of the extended shackles taken off my 67 Polara. I wouldn't even GIVE them to you... LOL. The loss of stability is dangerous.

From my experiences, the air shocks, even with 60psi in them to compensate for sagged rear springs on my '70 Monaco, did not affect the ride as most of the air shocks had the larger pistons of the factory HD shocks anyway. But with more pressure, things might get a little stiffer, BUT still should not really adversely affect the ride per se.

My own experience differs in that respect. Medina, my 1971 Monaco, had rear air shocks when I bought her in Winter 2019. The ride was super stiff as the shocks had been raised to the maximum setting. Things did improve a bit after @71Polara383 lowered the pressure and brought the ride height back to factory, but it was still a stiff experience. What solved the issue was installing KYB shocks in the rear.

FWIW, Medina's springs are still the original ones. I have not been keen of fixing stuff that does not seem "broke" to me, because of the issues replacing old and sourcing new shackles. At some point, though, I will probably follow the advice of @polara71 and @Big_John and install new springs just to see how much of a difference it makes.

Except that the "rise" might well make the front end's effective caster way out of whack, which might affect highway stability, possibly.

Indeed. Putting KYBs up front drastically improved Medina's stability at highway speeds.

I would like it to be the stock height and kind of soft.

Any update since 10 days ago? Did you find shackles? FWIW, there's lots of useful info on fuselage shackles in this 2016 thread.

Okay I was looking at these and figured I’d pour some gas on the fire. Anybody ever use these? I never have.

Great! If you have a chance to take pics and post them here, that would be great. Here is what their website gave me -- but I could not find any photo of the various parts, and would like to see things before ordering:

Before and after stance too.

Interesting - how does one prevent the spring from walking in the shackle's slots?

I've never seen those before, by the looks of them they're designed to slide straight back and forth, opposed to swinging like a traditional shackle. Would in theory sit lower, and probably have a little less side to side play.

What are those called? I'm interested too!

Looks good! Although those aren't the correct offset shackles. Start soaking your old nuts in penetrating fluid, though it's probably best to use a nut splitter to avoid damaging the threads/snapping the studs.

This is all I got.

Thank you for posting. It'd be great if you could add a list of the numbers for the parts they sent to you.

It was @Big_John that was looking for the offset ones - I think the OP just needed the parallel ones as he received.

I think that's right. I am in the same boat as John, needing the offset parts for a couple of 1970 Polara 'verts.
