So life has dealt me a hand and im gonna play it my way. Heart trouble has my time here on earth limited so im gonna put some clothes, few tools and my trusty companion dog in the 66 Sport Fury and hit the road. Not married and no kiddos so why not. I have couple thousand dollars saved and just gonna go. Gettin car ready for departure in month or so. What would be forums advice on where to focus attention? If u see us in your travels, honk and give a thumbs up. God Bless

You just put a smile on my face! Looking for some fun/better times in the future myself.

Hopefully you know the car well enough to know what might be getting close to needing some attention, as reliable and durable as those cars tend to be. There are lots of great things to see in this country, with a few that are a bit less so. Do enjoy as much as possible.

DO make sure that whatever medical insurance coverages you might have can follow you on your adventure, not stopping "out of the area", as some might do. For general principles, you might get a GPS tracking device put on the car, plus enable anything similar on you cell phone. THEN enable a trusted individual to monitor your locations so that somebody knows where you are, just in case . . . Your agenda, their monitoring. DO keep in touch with them, too, if for nothing more than to relay the fun you're having to them. Hopefully, they can share your joy!

How old are the battery, alternator, and fuel pump? Maybe get spares for them, with the tools needed to change them, in the trunk? Or get them replaced a few weeks before departure, with the current ones in the trunk?

Everybody's time on this earth is limited, at any age. Enjoying it as much as possible is extremely important! The longer we might live, the more stories we'll have to share others.

Best of luck! Enjoy! and SEND PICS.

Sorry to hear about your situation but I am glad to hear that you are taking a roadtrip. When you have an idea as to where you will be heading please post it so that if you are travelling near any members, we can try to meet up with you.

Great plan every thing in this great country is worth seeing. You are an inspiration

AAA premium ! Next would be a hitch and small camper or pop up.. Motels and hotels will eat up a bunch of savings fast. Not all are pet friendly. I usually carry a small 2000K Honda generator with me.
I have been doing this for the past 10 years in several different collector Mopars. A great way to travel and meet people along the way. Make up destinations as you go, there's a lot to see and do, depends on your interests. This time of year.... stay south. New Orleans is a great destination, US 90/98 East along the coast is a great drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Sky Line drive, all 550 miles of them are highly recommended. Keep member contacts. We could be helpful along your route.

Sorry to hear about your health issues.

Regarding travel, I recommend the southwest.
Tucson, San Diego, Balboa Park, the Sierra mountains, Hearst Castle.

If you appreciate history, there is more around than time!

I'm sorry to hear this.. by your avatar pic, you look way to young for this kind of news. Maybe you're just limited physically... and not time limited. Never fully trust the word of a doctor and never underestimate the power of positive thinking and the human body.

Travel the south and live like a ******* king!! Stay safe!

Enjoy your trip! Sorry to hear about the news. I'd have tune up parts/ some switches and a tool box with me, depending on what you're running (replacement ECU, points condenser).

I mention switches because I was travelling the Pacific Northwest in prolonged rain (naturally...) when my wiper switch smoked...now that is hard to come by on the road for an old Mopar. Left me stranded in a small community ringing around local yards etc till I found one from a derbier.

Now I always carry an extra wiper and headlight switch in the car on trips.

Some good tips here on what to take with you, sorry to here about you health issues. Enjoy the time seeing the country, I will pray for safe travels for you.

Hey Jimmy, swing by Phoenix, go south, then head west through the Imperial valley to San Diego.

You are doing what I dream of doing someday when I retire. Will be interesting to see a regular blog of your travels.
I agree about the Southwest: Albuquerque, White Mountains, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Tucson. Then drive up the coast of California.
Safe travels.

I had a chance to kill some time and do some sightseeing out west a few years ago. The drive up to Oatman Arizona from Kingman is fun, I think its part of the old route 66 in Kingman "the mother road". Also north out of of Vegas up to Hurricane Utah, outside of Zion national park was fun. Another good time when I drove to Yosemite and walked alone thru the Mariposa grove, 2500 yr old giant sequoia trees, makes you think about your place in the world when there's a massive two thousand year old living being towering over you. Things don't seem so important anymore know what I mean.... of course Pacific coast highway is a classic cruise.
Rock On !

The same trip I had planned for my first summer of retirement before the whole Covid thing killed that. My plan was a counterclockwise trip Mt Rushmore, Colorado across I-70, lot of family in the Bay area, down the PCH to S.D, more family over in Scottsdale then across to Texas and back north. Maybe next summer.

Good luck on your travels and keep us posted.
I like camping but the girlfriend prefers hotels.
We used Hotels.com and get a free room after so many.
Some hotels are skectchy but we are there only to sleep.
All Motel 6 are pet friendly regardless what the hotel owners say and try to charge for your pet.
Oh..get a CB radio!! Truckers are always on top of traffic cinditions and shortcuts for detours..

One of the perks from all that travel for work is the hotel bonus points. I figure half of my nights are freebies.

If you have gone over your car and are happy then the only thing I would recommend is a cell phone and battery pack...

..fair travels to you.
