What year(s) did they put an upholstered cushion or padded armrest on the lid that is hinged at the back?

'60+'61+'62 300s for sure Matt. Not sure about the Late '50s? It's a memory thing Pal and it ain't the first thing that stops working the way we'd like it to, lol
Thanks Jer but I got my answer. The one in question is for ‘66-‘68 Polara & ‘67 Charger.

I used a 67 Charger rear console arm rest on a custom built rear console in a 57 Chevy built for a customer.

IIRC, some of the 64-65 consoles had padded lids too... and lifted front to back...

1966 Dodge Monaco 500 had a padded console lid as an option, but I am not sure if it opened front to back... pretty sure it was sideways because it wouldn't be able to open fully due to the raised piece at the rear of the console.

As well, the Charger full length to rear seat console had a rear padded lid that opened front to back too, as mentioned by @bluefury361 (nice looking work there by the way!!), and there was a front padded lid, but it opened sideways I believe. I could be incorrect.

@BIGBARNEYCARS is correct as well (although they're technically not C bodies either), the front and rear consoles in the 60 Chrysler 300 has padded armrests. I can't be sure if they open front to back or sideways...

i have a 66 charger/monaco armrest lid on a 69 console in my 71 fury wagon.
the 69 console lid is flat and has no armrest; so thats why i used the 66.

Mines a 67 and it opens front to back. My buddy’s 68 was the same.

OK, those pics really edum'cate me on how they open - I can see how much the rear hinge is raised up to permit the lid to clear what's behind it.

The back underside of the padded piece also has an upward indentation in it which allows for the extra clearance. There’s a single spring wire that serves as the hinge pin so when you hit the button (just in front of the lid) it springs up in the front. Then you lift it the rest of the way open.

I just finished redoing mine and it’s not on the console or I’d take better pictures.

From the pics in the Dealer data books it appears that the padded armrest stopped in 67...is there consensus?

I’ve seen one in a 68 Monaco 500 but it was a Canadian car so... maybe?

I have a padded, front opening console in my '68 Monaco 500, sold new in Maryland. Same with my '66 Monaco 500. The whole thing bolts to the top of the console, and as stated, sits just a little higher than the rear portion. It needs to be about 6 inches or so higher to be useful for me, at 6'2", I have to lean over to have my arm anywhere close to touching.
