1966 300 power to manual steering

I scored a NOS pitman on ebay for 25 bucks. Boxes are easy to find. The column section is what's going to hold me up. I'd really like to use all stock parts from a manual steering C body. I want this to be a bolt in that's reversible should someone want to return to power steering.

Update! Got the manual brakes swapped in. Guys...there is simply no need for power brakes on these cars...It was just a marketing ploy. Just look how happy this little guy is! Uses all correct parts.

So you do all these changes but yet you decide to use the old, antiquated, single pot reservoir instead of upgrading to a dual Master reservoir. May a brake line fail on your first test drive! You really are a special kind of stupid aren't you?

Dude, shouldn't I put anti-locks on it too? Jeez..why do you mess with old cars at all? I moved to Arizona to carry guns, ride my Harleys with out a @#$%^& helmet and leave my clocks alone year 'round. I buy '68 and older cars so I don't have to wear a friggin' seat belt. Sometimes being "a special kind of stupid" looks exactly like being a bold American son. Either way, keyboard warrior, I doubt you'd talk that way to my face.

I'm sure the majority of this board will agree with me on installing a dual reservoir master cylinder, go eat some Turkey!

Our hobby is driven by individuality. Each of us has our unique idea of what we want, and how our car(s) should be built. Some restore to what the car was when it left the factory. Some customize. Some........ And each of us has the responsibility to respect this individuality. Respect is important.

Check out Firm Feel Inc., Steering and Suspension. They offer an adapter for adapting a manual steering box to a power steering column.

I agree with the dual circuit brake upgrade. I've been fortunate enough to have mine go out on a gravel road with no traffic, right by the house. Stopping is a must, armstrong steering is a choice.

The single pot mc was fine, in their day, when these cars were new we pulled a travel trailer all over the country. However with the age of our cars now and the easy enough upgrade to a dual mc it’s a no-brainer.

I suppose I'm one of the few fools here that doesn't worry a bit about a single pot M/C. The key is using quality parts & doing regular fluid flushes. I also make sure the entire brake system is in perfect working order along with the emergency brake and convert all drum adjusters to manual to make sure it stops straight & true. You would enjoy this car of mine Norman, a very minimalist '65 Satellite that is totally manual. Very fun to drive. I bought in Lake Havasu, very close to Kingman.

Hey, you can't worship Lemay AND Nader. Pick a friggin' side, man. Anyhow, I don't base my inclinations on popularity. I'm driving a fifty five year old!@#$%^& mauve droptop Chrysler, for s#!t's sake! Please stop talking, I can barely see for rolling my eyes everytime I read your whiney comments. Simplicity is the greatest safety feature.

Looks like Santa knows his stuff. I finally got my manual steering parts all in one place. There is a LOT of misinformation out there, and a lot of "experts" that ain't. Anybody looking for a C body power steering pump and box? Once I get this on and shaken down, I'll sell the used stuff.

Well....I think this thread got derailed because there was a lack of distinction between a BAD idea and a DUMB idea some pages back. If Norman decided to drive his car into a tree at 40 mph to see if he survived it, I'd call that a bad idea. Putting manual steering on these cars is a DUMB idea. It's his car though, and he seems to be highly entertained by and empowered by dumb ideas such as the no helmet thing and the no seat belt thing. Another place where Norman and I diverge greatly besides not wanting to go through the windshield in a car accident is not using those single-pot master cylinders that WORK GREAT! until they don't. I used the one off my '66 as a wheel chock for a while.

Me? I'm keeping the power steering and power brakes on my car for one reason: I like sitting there driving with virtually no effort needed. I may or may not need a test of my virility and masculinity occasionally, but attempting to drive my damn car isn't going to be IT. I have a Valiant with manual steering and dislike it so much that I found a Dart to replace it with that has...get ready for it....power steering. Good luck with that HEI. I learned my lesson with those...if the starter sucks the voltage too low during starting, the module won't work...even with a GOOD BATTERY and big old fat wiring. I switched to a Pertronix and never looked back.

'Cause those are my options...power steering or crashing into a tree. Nice logic. You sound like my brother in law's retarded kids.. Ya know, when I was working on the ISS at Redstone Arsenal...I thought a lot of that equipment was extraneous too.

I am fond of those old single pot master cylinders!!on my old 41 dodge that is!With that big cow catcher bumper i would just head for a small tree or something to bounce off of(1966)
and God help anyone I ran in to with that Car.

...I bet you like coitus with little or no effort as well. And Pertronix IS an HEI system. Hall Effect Ignition. You're pretty slow, there, Aylabaymuh!
