I've been watching F1 for many years now and have seen quite a few accidents, but this one was one of the worst, and best (outcome wise) I've seen in a long, long time.

This is a true testament to the progress of F1 technology, engineering and safety that has taken place over the last 40-50 years.

:wideyed: That's one hell of a hit. It's simply amazing that he walked away like he did. The safety factor built into todays cars is crazy. 15yrs ago that would have been a death hit.

Seeing a driver emerge from the flames like that is amazing. Thankfully he will be fine. The reason I stopped watching is Hamilton has no competition.

I was watching the race live for once, because it was a night race. I saw the explosion in the background, it looked like some movie explosion. He had a full tank of fuel, being the first lap of the race. They didn't show any more footage until they knew he was alright. I held my breath until they said he was alright.

The car split in half, never seen any like it. The commentators mention how the tank is in the middle of the car and they just don't rupture like that, but they do when it is split down the middle.

Hamilton clearly has had the best car in the turbo era, and is one of the best drivers. I would like to see them all drive his car in the same race, now that would be a fun race to watch.

Ironically he said in an interview this year that he didn't watch much F1 during Schumacher's dominance, because it was boring. There has been a few good races this year but most have been quite boring.

I haven't really kept up with F1. The last race I watched live was this era...

@Fratzog , did you go there (Mosport) in it's heyday?

I thought I was going to read about the 1971 440+6 Sport Fury barn find you uncovered. Good for Frenchie but I’m a little disappointed.

I'm not a big fan of Hamilton and never will be. Just not my kind of guy. Too much arrogance for me. He certainly is talented, but a lot has to do with the car. Vettel was king for a number of years also, when his car was unbeatable, and look at him now, struggling just to get into Q1 or 2 for that matter. I'd love to see these guys in an old school car and watch them fumble around.

That's the arrogance to which I speak. Schumacher made it through all those years of changing technology from manual gear boxes to paddle shifters to traction and launch control and then taking it all away, engines revving to 19,000 rpm and then Hamilton had it all given to him, not to deal with any of that. Ufffff!

Lol... sorry to disappoint, but a life and walking away from that kind of crash is just a tad more important than any 71 Six Pack Fury.... don't you think?

If you guys really want to see some cool F1 action get to the vintage races in your area. Limerock, Sears Point, Laguna Seca, PIR, Road America etc etc you’ll see the great cars from the glory days running laps flat out. If you go to one of the smaller races you can ride mooch during the lunch break open track. Funniest thing I ever saw at the races was my wife tell Mr Click “no thanks I’d rather ride in something else”, he had a legit GT40 and she was waiting to ride in a real Shelby cobra. Funny but now that I think about it, it was always easier for the girls to mooch rides for some reason...

I have gone to the vintage races at Mid-Ohio. Always a good time, so cool with all the different levels of cars and talent.

Both those tracks are on our bucket list. Nice thing about going out of state is the new mix of cars. Funny how after years and years you get used to them.
