Difference between B and C body consoles

my 66 Polara 500 is an original bucket seat console car and it has a smooth silver top, I had a 66 Satellite with the ribbed top so the smooth must be a C-body thing

you might be able to get a woodgrained top plate and remove the woodgrain ( I think it's a decal ) and then repaint the area where the wood was as silver to make the same effect.

That is what I am going to try on a 4 speed top plate because they only make the woodgrain or the ribbed in new re-pop and I am 4 speed converting my car so I need the smooth silver just like what it has now except in a 4 speed plate.

does it look like this? look close at the pattern
And not so much at Tom's feet. :D

Joking aside - What's the total length of the longest piece of that woodgrain insert, Tom? I could maybe CNC them out of some different laminate material if guys wanted a custom look. (doorpanels might need done also?)
And I'd need a pattern to follow.

on my 68 300 wood grain it all comes apart in separate pieces

the repop is one piece fiberglas

I know this is an old thread but it didn't address the later consoles that appear to be different.
The parts book isn't clear in trying to separate the actual plates from the overlays.

In looking at the console it appears there are four main components, the front top, the lid, the rear plate and the rear end cap.

I see no reason for these to be any different than the B-Body but you never know.
The parts book illustration also shows the rear end bezel having a cigar lighter in it, I see no reference to it in the text section.

For '66 (and maybe '67) the B and C consoles were the same, I got one from a Charger to replace the cut one in my Polara. They are also fiberglass, and are two pieces, vs the one piece design from '68 onward. The main piece ends just after the storage compartment, and the end bolts to the inside of the storage compartment. The Charger uses a different piece to extend back to the rear seats. The Polara has the standard tail with end cap, like any other console, just in two pieces.

From what I have seen over the years for the consoles is that the base is exactly the same. The 1970+ Chrysler and Dodge's use padded console tops where the Plymouth still uses the metal top plates. The 1966-1969 console top plates are the same as a B-body. The chrome end cap should have a cigar lighter in it on a C-body, as well the 1968-1969 cars have seat belt clips on the top of the console to attach the seat belts to.

If it's a Monaco 500 for Dodge, Polara 500's have a standard end cap.

I don't have seat belt clips on my '68 Monaco 500, but have one from a '69 (not sure what make) that had the clips.

It is a 69 Polara 500, I'll check for evidence of the clips, I haven't had much time to look at the car in the last couple weeks, hasn't been out of the garage since we got it home from Phoenix. Just got the lid open last night.

There will be two sets of small holes at the very back, it should be obvious

Ok every C-Body I've seen in Canada has the Cigar lighter in the back of the console. Might be a Canadian thing? My 69 Monaco had the belt clips and the cigar lighter. I've also got a really clean console from a 1969 Sport fury that has it as well as the console from my 70 300 parts car.

Maybe, I was thinking of that when I was typing, forgot to clarify US production.

The seat belt latches in '68 were still th wider, aircraft style and wouldn't fit properly on the clips they had in '69.
